2010 Cadillac SRX - Spy Shots

Cadillac's new 2010 Cadillac SRX crossover has been spotted wearing minimal checkerboard camouflage while undergoing testing and it looks like the SRX is about ready to show up at an auto show before arriving in Cadillac showrooms in mid-to-late 2009 as a 2010 model.

Through the light camo it is easy to see the SRX's resemblance to the hydrogen-powered Cadillac Provoq concept GM showed in January at the 2008 Detroit Auto Show. The shape of the greenhouse, the crease on the side, and the shapes of the C-pillars and tailgate are all quite close to those of the Provoq.

Earlier rumors of GM calling this "BRX" were quashed several months ago. But while the new crossover will still be called SRX in Cadillac's lineup, the two vehicles have little in common. The current SRX is built on the rear-drive Sigma platform that also underpins the CTS and STS sedans, whereas this new crossover rides on a new front-drive "Theta Premium" platform (along with the upcoming 2010 Saab 9-4x), which uses some pieces from the bigger Lambda platform.

The switch to a transverse layout likely means that the V-8 option will also be going away with the SRX, which shouldn't be surprising given that GM shelved development of a replacement for the aging Northstar, doubly so considering that GM's direct-injection 3.6-liter V-6 achieves similar power outputs with better fuel economy. Expect a non-direct-injection V-6 with around 260 horsepower and a direct-injection V-6 with around 300 horsepower to be offered, both mated exclusively to a six-speed automatic.

its quite interesting Cadillac has decided to give up on the current SRX's segment the current SRX is one of the best Cadillacs ever made, and one of best cars in its class. Ashame it didnt sell well as expected but it still makes sense to occupy that space with a midsize crossover to compete with the X5, ML crowd, and name this one something else and place it below the SRX to compete with the X3, GLK

The SRX is okay, but Cadillac made some major mistakes with it:

1. They didn't stay true to the original show car. The production SRX in person is long, narrow, and low to the ground. From most angles, it looks like a bizzarre station wagon with a too-tall roof instead of a sporty crossover SUV. It's proportions are similar to the Ford Freestyle.

2. The interior (the dash mainly) is overwrought and just plain weird.

If the SRX drops the NorthStar V8 and opts for transversely mounted engines then all I can say is that someone at GM know how to kill a brand.

Looks like it's going to be nice. I never thought I'd find a cadillac appealing, but the CTS and now this? whoever the designer is deserves serious recognition. these things are sharp! and this is coming from a BMW lover.

I can't believe they are shrinking the SRX. The way these pics look it doesn't appear as though there is any way this thing will have a 3rd row. That leaves Cadillac with only the Escalade holding more than 5 people. These pics make it look like a slightly extended Saturn Vue. Unless this thing prices in at less than 32k I think they will have a very hard time moving this product.

I believe its because of that "junk from Japan" that the SRX is not doing so well. You see with all this crap from Japan Americans have different choices now (thank God) and they want something funky, interesting, futuristic, sexy...etc. Who wants to be driving around an SUV with rear lights exactly the same as the big long boats Cadillac had back in the 70's. Why couldn't they put different looking rear lights? The rear of that SUV does not say youthful, exotic, fast...etc. It says, "Ca Ca"

perhaps a bit wider this time would be nice.... but could it be making the same mistake mercedes did with the R-CLASS?
