Lexus Releases Pebble Beach Editions Of Both The SC430 And The LS600h

August 14, 2008 - Torrance, CA - Lexus introduced the first-ever LS 600h L Pebble Beach Edition and the sixth SC 430 Pebble Beach Edition to commemorate its continuing partnership with Pebble Beach Company. The vehicles were unveiled at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance Lexus Fashion Preview on August 15, 2008. Production of these 2009 Pebble Beach Edition vehicles are limited to 50 LS 600h L flagship hybrid luxury sedans and 300 SC 430 hardtop convertibles. Pebble Beach Edition owners have the opportunity to customize their ownership experience by selecting from one of three distinctive merchandise packages: Callaway Golf Experience, Travel Package or Epicurean Encounter.

The LS 600h L's distinctive L-finesse styling is complemented by a unique exterior/interior color combination exclusive to the Pebble Beach Edition with a Truffle Mica exterior paint combined with an exclusive two-tone Alabaster and Black leather trim interior with Dark Grey Bird's-eye maple wood trim. Additional styling cues include 19-inch, five-spoke wheels with a unique finish, Pebble Beach interior badging, premium black floor mats with stainless steel badging, and blue illuminated scuff plates. The Pebble Beach LS hybrid comes standard with the Advanced Pre-Collision System (APCS) which incorporates the world's first system designed to help detect pedestrians in the vehicle's path, as well as world's first Driver Monitor System that helps warn drivers if it senses an obstacle ahead of the car and that the driver's head is not facing forward. The APCS system helps prepare the car for evasive action or collision by triggering appropriate sensors in the car and retracting the front seatbelts. Furthermore, the Pebble Beach Edition LS 600h L is equipped with the Advanced Parking Guidance System, Rear-Seat Entertainment System (RSES), power rear-door sunshades and rear-seat side airbags.

Celebrating its sixth year, the new Pebble Beach Edition SC 430 receives an exterior/interior color combination with a Mercury Metallic exterior paint and an exclusive two-tone Ecru and Black leather trim interior with Black Bird's-eye maple wood trim. The retractable hardtop convertible includes special-edition brushed chrome badging on the front fenders and center console, and an Ecru The Lone Cypress™ logo embroidered on black carpeted floor mats. It also features a color-keyed rear spoiler, 18-inch Machined Tourmaline alloy wheels, and white illuminated scuff plates. All-season run-flat or summer run-flat tires are available.

The Lexus partnership with Pebble Beach Resorts initiated in August of 2003 with the debut of the first Pebble Beach Edition SC 430. This established Lexus as the Preferred Vehicle of Pebble Beach Resorts and has offered Pebble Beach Edition Lexus owners a variety of amenities designed to evoke the exclusivity that comes with an excursion to the Pebble Beach Resorts. Presently, guests of Pebble Beach Resorts can experience the on-going partnership with complimentary time in a Lexus test-drive vehicle or transportation service to and from several locations in a Lexus Guest Transportation vehicle.

In February 2008, the Pebble Beach Edition RX 350 and ES 350 models were introduced into the collection. The LS 600h L is the fourth vehicle model to receive a Pebble Beach Edition package.

The 2009 SC 430 and LS 600h L Pebble Beach Edition vehicles go on sale in September and October 2008, respectively.

BMW, Audi and MB do not cheapen their cars with crap like that.

At least the German makes know how to make and integrate a proper digital or analog clock into their cars.

im no where near a lexus fan but i will have to totally disagree with that, there interiors for the most part are pretty nice, especially by comparison to its Japanese competition Lexus really does make the best interiors of the 3 by far. the SC i agree should be killed its ugly, and pointless, and dated....but i honestly like the color scheme on the LS(interior), i dont see how it goes with that exterior color, and the blue hybrid symbol on this car looks rediculous it seems to cheapen the car....but nice interior though in the LS

beauty is in the eyes of beholders. I acutally like the SC (but not enough to buy one). a red SC looks pretty awesome IMO.

Interior has always been Lexus' strength, at least that's how I feel when I test drove all entry level sporty cars. I love their interior color, the choice of material, and nice layout. i guess it is pretty subjective since I get bored with BMW/Audi's one tone interior.

having said that, i really dislike the ES's interior (espically the passanger side) and I have no idea how they sold so many copies of it.

"Designo" is an optional, very expensive trim that customers of most Mercedes model can order.

Furthermore, Designo is not intented to "force sales" during the end cycle of a product, unlike the Pebble Beach Edition that Lexus offers.

The so called "enthusiast" was stating that it was odd to have a special edition LS hybrid so early.

I merely pointed out that the designo editions (which are like the Pebble Beach cars: cosmetic only packages) are usually offered when a new Benz model debuts.

So you can't say that the LS hybrid already being offered with a Pebble Beach edition is unique or autmatically a sign of poor sales.

I don't know why someone who has such disdain for Lexus feels a need to act like they know everything about the brand.

Fact: All Lexus special editions have an increased cost. They are only available as a package which often times includes other options (NAV, audio upgrade....) and can include other items such as golf bags/ travel bags..whatever.

You can't just get a base LS hybrid with the Pebble Beach color combos and badging without any additional cost. YOU CAN'T!

As I said previously, you can see this currently by building your own RX at Lexus.com (RX. I'll say it agin. RX!!!!!!!!)

Obviously the new SC and LS hybrid Pebble Beach versions aren't up yet. But as someone who seems to know a crapload more than you about Lexus, and someone who has previously owned a special edition Lexus (GS Sportdesign) you can take my word for it.

you are completely correct. special edition lexuses include other options the have real cost (like nav, audio, etc). the special editions cost no more than base cars with the equivalent options. in other words, there isn't a cost of the special edition part.

I think lexus gives you a nice fit and finish and their cars are roomy. I have been in a SC430 and I like it but like everyone else said at this point its dated and needs to be revamped. they need to look atthe onew they did in the 90'S and go from their I dont think it should be discontinued because its one of the icons lexus has but i do agree its is dated.

I hope that they are both equipped with some sort of "Left Lane Avoidance" feature that automatically moves the car out of the #1 lane if traveling below the speedlimit and overrides the drivers every attmpt to move back into the #1 lane and travel too slow. It should be standard on all Toyota and Lexus products...by Federal mandate if necessary.
