The 1993-1998 Twin Turbo Supra is one of the best sports car of all time. I was so looking forward to the new one.

I agree. The Supra would have been awesome. I don't understand they said they dropped it because of High MPG requirements? But they are keeping their SUV's? Doesn't make sense. I was thinking they could have used the same platform of the Lexus IS-F.

What I like about Toyota is that they understand what the Japanese cars stand for...cheap appliances. Since they obviously cannot compete with the technological marvels made in Germany they decided to stick with what they do best...build cheap appliances.
Toyota gets thumbs up from me for this move. Hopefully all the Japanese makers will follow in Toyota's foot steps, return to their modest roots and build only very low priced econoboxes instead of wasting energy to go against the untouchable GIANT that Germany is when it comes to cars.

This means you'd rather see Japan fall in the sports car segment and let the germans handle it. Germany has great sports cars, but they aren't alone. America has the corvette, Italy with their fiats, lamborghinis and ferraris, and Japan with the evo, sti and gtr and others that aren't sold here. with that much competition, it makes choice almost infinite. Don't give me this "Germany is the best, refined, blah blah blah" because I want the best product for me and my money, regardless of where its from.

They have the evo, sti, miata (cheapest rwd car you can buy) which hasn't left the planet. and the legacy is the most underrated car in its class. Again don't give me your "German superiority" bs because i'll buy whatever appeals to me and my wallet.

Since your wallet is empty you might need to stick with the econo Japanese brands.

My wallet isn't restricted to just buying japanese like I said earlier. And I don't plan to buy anything new anytime soon. If you're wondering, I'm deciding whether I should get something for the track or something for the winter with useable cargo space. Preferably in any condition.

Yeah I know. The last redesign wasnt much of a redesign too. And now this current body is gonna be here for a while. Thats one of the few issues I have with their luxury brand, lexus, they keep selling a a body until its DATED and then theyll redesign.

its funny they canceled the fj which sells here in the US and is an export favorite, and they redesign the tacoma which does not sell well and is a milk crate on wheels.

the solara is good car. i hope they redesign it and up the power on it. also make it look less girly.

i am not saying its the best on the market. its just a good car.

it has sports car looks, its bigger inside than a accord coupe and gets very good mpg. my wife's would get about 24mpg on regular. i am 6' 3" and my friend who is 6' was able to sit behind me with no problems.
i pretty much sit as far back as possible.

the JBL sound system is better than honda's system.

the trunk on the solara was actually bigger than the one on my fx, plus the seats go down.

i just wish they would make it sportier. better suspension, brakes and performance but keep the size.

as a tall guy most sports car are out of my grasp because of comfort.

SUPER boring product cycle board...so basically what its saying is we get nothing new to look at on the road until 2012...smart toyota.

...but unlike you Toyota knows that their reliability ratings will drop faster than the speed of light once they start building performance cars. The Japanese makers are hardly known for building reliable performance cars. The multitude of problems every single Japanese performance car suffered of is still a cruel reality. Toyota knows it too and that's the reason they chose to play safe. For that reason they get thumbs up from me.

Guys don't jump into conclusions. Until now, it is only news talk. For me, nothing is official until officially stated by the manufacturer themselves and even if what stated here is true, think of what good this makes to the manufacturer and why they are doing this. The success and experience Toyota/Lexus saw and have proves that all their steps are carefully calculated, so what does the future holds for us is unknown. What we are doing here is the same thing people did when Toyota introduced Lexus at the late 1980s, we simply are saying "What in the hell they are doing? Crazy Toyota wants to takeover Germans". Eventually, Lexus is now one of the giant Germans rivals and a strong competitor. So believe me when I say; they know what they are doing.

This is Bull. They should just give the supra the high mpg requirement. Because a lot of people who buy it will just change the engine. We need the Supra back. I don't really get excited about Toyota cars and if they came out with a new Supra I would be excited about Toyota again and even if you have one exciting car, it can help business. It would make em well rounded. Because they have all the fuel efficient cars. They have suv's and vans. They have trucks. But they don't have any sports cars. It would bring stronger interests if they have it in their lineup. I hope some Toyota execs are reading.

oh and...dont expect much from toyota. the richest car company in the world and they offer us nothing. why there are toyota enthusiasts is beyond me. maybe some of their older stuff was good, but havent we all held our breaths long enough? i mean, even the ISF was some top secret thing. its painfully obvious toyota execs are a bunch of old school blue haired japanese businessmen. am i bitter? yah i held my breath. no more...

What a pity, another 90's classic bites the dust. That decade was one of the best for such interesting and fun to drive cars like RX7, Supra, F355, 240SX, 300SX, SC400, NSX, Talon turbo, Subaru SVX, McLaren F1, Acura Legend, MR2.. the list never ends! hell even the BMWs looked ok back then :)

It's been all downhill since then, all we get now are cars that look like cartoon characters on steroids and bloated behemoths that need well over 200hp to feel somewhat nimble. I guess the simple light weight and fun to drive cars are the thing of the past.

I posted this as a response to the Supra but could not find it above. Why are they killing the Supra because of High Gas Mileage requirements when they are keeping the SUV's? They could use the Lexus IS-F platform.

I think the Highlander and Tacoma got mixed up. Why would they redesign the Highlander in 2009 when it just got redesigned, and not redesign the Tacoma until 2013 which hasn't been redesigned since what? 2003?

Is *anyone* honestly surprised by the cancellation of the FJ? Or even aware of it? I mean...when was the last time you actually saw one on the road? Toyota already has too many SUVs in its line-up, doesn't make sense to keep on keeping the ugly (ugliest) one.

The Supra, though, I'm a bit surprised about. They are missing a golden opportunity, I think, to grab even more mindshare for their eco-friendly technologies. If they were to put a high-performance hybrid motor into a future Supra design, they could prove that eco-friendly doesn't mean crappy performance, which would really attract a lot more attention, and widen their lead (now that everyone else is finally starting to catch up to them in hybrid sedans/SUVs).

I wonder why toyota would cancel the Fj cruiser those things are everywhere, they sell like crazy where I live.

they don't sell well here. I've only seen a few FJs and one was an original model. The new model is a ugly hunk of plastic. I'm glad that it is going away.

why kill the supra that was the sports car to beat back in the 90's that car was a definite race car out of the box for its day. I think the supra will set the standard on how japenese sports cars should be made. it was better than the 300zx by far I think they will give nissan a runn for their money KEEP THE SUPRA

i think toyota should kill all you haters.toyota makes some of the best cars in the world,i have had three,tundra hilux pickup,celica,and now a 2012 fj the best i have ever owned.toyota is way better than the american garbage that i have owned one too many times and never again.
