Bye Bye RS4, Is A RS5 Coupe Going To Now Rule The Roost?

Bye Bye RS4, Is A RS5 Coupe Going To Now Rule The Roost?
When Audi released the RS4 in February 2005 nobody expected it to be a true competitor to BMW’s benchmark M3 coupe, but with the benefit of quattro all-wheel-drive, a boost in power, and better weight distribution, the performance sedan managed to upset its rivals. Audi has decided, however, to not produce a RS4 sedan this time around, and instead concentrate on a RS5 coupe, which is expected to debut in February next year in time for the 2009 Geneva Auto.

With the release of the new generation BMW M3 Coupe and sedan and the Mercedes C63 AMG, Audi will once again be playing catch-up but it does have a few tricks up its sleeves to ensure it will be the class-leader once again. One potential powertrain option is the same 4.2L V8 as the RS4, however power will be boosted to 450hp and it will likely get the option of Audi’s newly upgraded S-tronic dual-clutch gearbox along with a manual transmission.

Lol, the M3 isn't light. The M3 Coupe has a dry weight of 1560kg, the AWD RS4 sedan has a dry weight of 1650kg. Seeing as the S5 is allot lighter then the S4, the RS5 will probably be allot lighter then the RS4. So the difference between M3 and RS5 will probably be around 50kg.

bmwdrvr, does the word hypocrite mean anything to you? You called me ignorant because you can't take to reasoning in that the first A4 is built on an Audi platform, later used & shared with VW in the Passat.

i am aware of the word......and ignorrant you still are as you said the argument of Audis dependance on VW is essentially slim to none....that is false...and ignorrant as the first A4, A6, TT, and why even go into disecting any other VW/Audi combinations as it will take to long....were shared platforms, engines, and switchgear with VW's cars.......is this a huge problem probably not for everyone...but it doesnt negate the fact that it is the truth........

You were clearly trying to make the case that an Audi is based on VW/rebadged VW. You ran off with your wikipedia info that the B5 & B6 A4 are VWs. The B5 was originally an A4. Nobody is denying that the B5 Passat shared the platform whenn it came out a few years later. It was developed for the A4.

Your wikipedia article also calls the B6 A4 a VW platform, care to tell me what VW uses the Audi A4 B6 platform? Then you find some other random article how the Passat actually shares the C5 A6 platform which are both stretched versions of the A4 is rediculous.

If you are just going to get your info off wikipedia you should know that it is flawed. The B5 Passat uses a torsen differential which was firsed used on the VR6 Passat (when?).

Try coming up with your own thoughts based on your knowledge, don't be a parrot.

Nobody is denying the TT shares a platform with the MK4 Golf/Jetta.

Of course they are going to work together, they're the same company. Doesn't every company that has more than one brand do the same? To say that Audi=VW in the way Pontiac=Chevy or GMC=Chevy Truck or Lexus Es=Camry is stupid and Audis A4 and previous "B" segment cars have always been Audis.

please stop wining its pitiful.....the fact is that mentione "audis" were simply VW's the passat namely in new clothes...as was the TT....they ARE VW CARS get over it...just like the ES and the Camry, the TL and the Accord...they are no different.....so instead of looking rediculous and trying your best to cover up the truth....THE AUDI GUYS HAVE TO DO THAT.....and for the record I backed my words with FACTS and REFERENCES...something your lies cant be backed with...get over it they are VWS

I think the B8 RS4 will still be produced, just the RS5 will come out first.

Either coupe or sedan, I look forward to seeing the new RS.

If they do decide to build the RS5 coupe, I hope they either make the sunroof a stand-alone-only option (i.e. not part of any package of options) or have a "sunroof delete" option. I'm too tall to fit in the A5 or S5 with the standard sunroof, which is a shame considering the performance and styling are so wonderful.
