New Civic? Honda Likes VW's New Scirocco So Much They Decide To MakeTheir Own

The new Honda Civic is here – and yet again it’s set to break the mould in the family hatchback sector! These exclusive shots show how the next car will look when it hits the showroom in 2010, and as you can see, the Japanese maker has opted for a shape that is even bolder and more individual than the current model.

With Vauxhall set to launch a stylish new Astra, and the next, sleek Ford Focus due in 2010, competition is fierce – but Honda has pulled out the stops to create a real stunner. As revealed in Issue 1,023, the OSM concept seen at the British Motor Show was more than simply an ‘Open Study Model’ – as the face of the new Civic is almost identical.

There are hints of VW’s IROC concept, which was toned down to become the Scirocco, in the gaping front grille.

If they put the Si drivetrain in this car, I would buy one.

Is this real? Probably not. But a good take on what Honda could capitalize on in the US market at least. It would also serve as peak at what a new Acura RSX could look like also.

Front reminds of a stretched S2000 more then anything.

Looks like a cross between the S2000 and a Volvo C30.

Lol wut? You guys still get a 5 speed transmission?

All the Civics here are only available as 6 speed manual or auto. Even the 1.4 model.

Homer's right. You'll never see this be the standard civic in NA. Maybe as the SI but not as the base model. Way too sporty for the average buyer.(but I'd love one!)

Why couldn't the next generation be this radical? The last generational change was extremely radical, so I see no reason why they won't do it again.

Does anyone know why the VW Scirocco costs more than $40,000?

Don't you people ever learn that you can't convert Euro prices to US prices. If that where so you guys would be paying 40000,- USD for a GTI and 130000,- dollars for a Corvette Z06.

2009 Volkswagen Scirocco Prices:

One source predicted $26,000 to start in base trim, presumably for the U.S. market.

Another source I read: 21,750.00 EUR (32,373.56 USD)

Scirocco actually looks like the old 5th generation civic hatchback at the back. So in fact the back of the new Scirocco nicked ideas from a 10 year Honda. (look it up in Wikipedia if you're unsure or any other searches). The new civic looks more like the S2000 at the front whilst at the back goes back to a design it had done before crossed with the design of the current euro design Civic.
The scirocco at the fronts looks nothing like a Honda, well this VW looks.. ermm.. back to VWs best.. crap...

It's quite clear even with the currency exchange rates issue that VW Of America simply does not want to sell the Scirocco in the US. The car costs no more to build then a GTI yet the official line is that they could not make a profit on it here. That is total BS! VOA simply want to protect GTI sales. I'm assuming that the GTI is the one bright spot in VOA's US sales. Thing is the Scirocco is a much prettier and more aggressive car. Also it's lighter and better handling. IF VOA were making some money in the US the Scirocco would already be in US showrooms. It will be interesting if Honda brings in this design for the Civic. I hope they do to teach VOA a lesson.

candywhite ...

Check out the VW cars in that period, VWs were still playing around with blocks and squares..

That picture you posted proves my point, if you've bothered to look at the back end of that car, you'll see where the scirocco got its idea. as for the front of tha 1992-1995 civic, well you can see where the S2000 came from.. just like the civic in this article, it's sprt of cross between the S2000 and a Volvo..

Look at your VWs during 1990-1997.. blocks and squares !!! You're either blind and dumb or you work for VW !

"(look it up in Wikipedia if you're unsure or any other searches)" that's what i was refering to, since you posted nothing to support your stupid argument. That picture that i posted was the only thing that could have proven your point, but since it dosent prove anything what you were talking about. You either learn how to cite sources correctly or stfu.
since you cant do either, i suggest you STFU.

when you talk about "blocks and squares" i assume to mean styling or design, and you have to be seriously delusional if you think honda is better in either of those two categories then VW.

BTW Candywhite..
Guess where VW got its new front idea from ?

Om Scirocco, Golf etc..

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:06-07_Honda_Civic_Coupe.jpg

You know, VW aren't as original as you claim them to be !

LAWL

if you think that VW based the Scirocco off this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:06-07_Honda_Civic_Coupe.jpg

Versus its own concept design study shown here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen_Iroc

you are clearly mistaking.

PS, the grille/fascia is more S2000 than Scirocco...

ok we know the japs are reliable but they are NOT contending with the germans....they can make a hell of a 4 cylinder and with some tunning it could crank out 200-250 hp but get over yourself

You mean the front of that VW concept looks like a S2000

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_S2000

whilst the back looks like the old Civic of yesteryears !!

even the front air intake have same shape as the S2000..

as I've said, Vw takes design cues from others and fools like you think it's all VWs own work..

If you find any resemblance between http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_S2000

and this

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen_Iroc

you should stop whatever you are doing and just quit.

If you want to judge it on sheer levels of having certain things in place.

VW was founded in 1937 and honda in 1948.

So Honda copied everything there is about a car from VW.

plz STFU
