Cadillac cancels plans for V12 XLKS flagship sedan

GM has indefinitely cancelled plans to build a V12 powered flagship sedan in order to move further with plans to build a replacement for the STS and DTS sedans. It was reported earlier this month that Cadillac has also halted development for the STS/DTS replacement in favor of more fuel-efficient models.

According to InsideLine’s sources, Cadillac has now shelved plans to produce what was known as the XLS sedan (based on the Sixteen Concept) and its V12 engine to focus fully on single high-end luxury model. The sedan is internally known as the DT7 and will be based on the rear-wheel-drive ZETA platform currently used on the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro.

I know!!! It was such a wonderful concept that looked ready for production...even the Top Gear crew loved it!

Actually...they didn't like the part where it's ONLY A CONCEPT!!! This is one of a few Cadillacs that don't require you to be a Caddy fan to like.

I'm not a big fan of American built either, but come on...Japanese? Seriously? If I couldn't own a German car, or European car for that matter, the last place I would go to for a car is Japan.

it sounds like GM may decide to take the Lincoln route and give up on fighting the top luxury brands which is pretty unfortunate......they seemed to really be turning around, a V12 isnt really necessary, but people are still buying luxury cars it sounds as if GM is kinda giving up on Cadillac, especially with delaying a replacement for the DTS(which is just the deville which has been out almost 10 years with new clothes and interior) and the STS...I guess the lack of funding is what is hurting them most, but it seemed Cadillac had a real chance of going against the top brands V12 or not

This is just... well, terrible.

It was absolutely perfect, I have never hoped so much a concept car like this would become a real production car, when it was the Caddy Sixteen concept car.

Who cares? Its just the engine they are not using (and nowadays its all about smaller more powerful technologically advanced machines/gadgets.........iphone, GTR, ASSIMO..etc.)

Use that damn design for an FX/X6 fighter or a CLS/Panamera fighter!

The Cadillac Sixteen would have been an instant ultra-luxury street cruiser had GM decided to produce it (in small numbers, of course). Had they done it 3 years ago, this would be the time for mid-gen refinements.

The Sixteen would have competed with the Bentley Arnage, RR Phantom, Maybach...and would have instantly become a halo vehicle for the legendary brand. Had the Sixteen been in production now, GM would be obligated to provide the funding to make a solid large sedan and coupe to take the place of DTS/STS & XLR.

First of all this inefficient V12 will beat your Camry any day so I think your Camry would fail.

Secondly, you heard Ferrari owners trading in their car for an LS600HL?. I smell bull doo doo.

If you owned a Ferrari would you worry about gas? probably not. Would you trade it in and say "Oh Ferrari is inferior to Lexus supreme quality and reliability". You're a douche bag.

a camry has more luxury than a cadillac anyday. slap on some leather and it's more comfortable than a granny caddy.

the lf-a will reign supreme in build quality and prestige compare to ferrari.
