This Should Be Fun- What Auto Brand Do You HATE The Most?
If you're a regular reader of AutoSpies.com or any other car website (i think there are others) you're used to everyone grabbing on and lauding and defending their favorite brand or brands.

So for today I thought I would be interesting to turn the tables and just have some plain raucous, unadulterated fun and talk about the brands you HATE the most.

Before we get the mudslinging started, PLEASE DO NOT just type a brand name and that's it.

EXPLAIN WHY you made your choice and what is it about them that makes you HATE them soooo much!

So, I'll start the battle with my choice.

ACURA.

Why?

Because I've never seen a company with more resources and more potential blow it SO bad, time and time again.

Their executives are the quintessential old school dead thinker types that wrecked the American auto companies.

Their PR people wouldn't take a chance or do something innovative if their lives depended on it.

Yes men (and women), ALL of them.

Their dealers invent ways to piss off new AND repeat customers with things like- Mud flaps, rustproofing and lojack come on all of our cars, so you HAVE to take it in the butt whether you want them or not.

EVEN if you order from the factory and SPECIFY NOT to add them on.

Why don't they just be honest and say we need to butthole you for an extra grand because corporate doesn't give us enough margin on the cars?

And then there are the cars....

Have you SEEN the new BEAK?

Can they REALLY be serious?

It would be one thing if their cars weren't good performing, reliable products.

That has NEVER been an issue although the RL is one of the WORST modern day cars I have ever driven.

Gorgeous interior, class leading electronics but with an exterior design that makes Kia's look exciting.

And the design of it is getting WORSE over time!

Are they EVER going to get the message they going the wrong way?

I personally would LOVE to see them return to prominence and bring out some great products.

But looking at where they are heading, that's NOT looking promising!

OK.

That felt GREAT to get that off my chest.

Are you all ready to vent your vermon on your most hated brand/brands?

I want to see it SPEW.

I want you all as angry as a Hillary Clinton voter is against Obama for slighting her...

Let's have at it!!!

And remember, as Chrissy Hynde of the Pretender's said... It's a THIN line between love and hate!

We promise you won't HATE our photo galleries!

LexusKindaGuy12, I believe this is meant to be some kinda survey which includes comments from regular haters and some new readers. Anyway, for me its Ford and Lexus for different reasons and not necessarily in that order.

Ford because I gave them 3 chances to get it right with different new Mercury Grand Marquis that I drove in the nineties and early his century. I had problems with seat comfort, rust, and paint, including an oil pan that rusted out two weeks before the warranty ran out. The clearcoat on a blue car turned blotchy white and ford refused to repaint it, hiding behind the warranty expiry. Seat comfort problems were at the extremes of too mushy and too firm.

As for Lexus, they are overpriced and have some shortcuts. The RX used to have a proper matching alloy spare in a proper wheel well inside the vehicle -- the spare is now underneath the vehicle exposed to winter salt and mud. The big LS tried to clone the S-class front seats but failed to make features and adjustments identical for both front seats. Even the LWB model with the rear lounge seat and ottoman has that feature on one side only -- unlike the Maybach which Lexus tried to clone here, they ended up with half a car.

I hate Hyundai because Koreans eat dogs. Dogs were bred to be campanions to people. They form strong emotional bonds to people and they can be intensly loyal. Torturing, slaughtering, and eating them is just wrong. So I avoid sending my money to Korea.

Honestly? It changes everyday.
Sometimes BMW because of Amazinbimmer (even though I own one)
Sometimes Lexus because of Silver1.
Sometimes HonAcura because of HondaJapan.

Although there are some brands I would never buy from, I don't hate a single brand. Its only when fanboys get out of control I get somewhat annoyed.

Well, I used to like Acura very much. I had a Legend back in 1994 (great car). But recently I just can't stand them. They've just fallen so far behind the competition. They don't have a "premium" look to them at all anymore and look like even uglier versions of Hondas. Acura's recent designs make me regurgitate.
Once a top Tier-2 brand, now a brand I've lost all respect for.

I AGREE, audirevolution!

I never really liked Merc's 'cause of their poor quality, and I realized that I hated them even more once my Merc friends began bashing me.
I never really liked Bimmers 'cause, honestly, I never understood them until a few years ago. BBUUTTT, When I finally bought my 2002 730Li, I cursed to myself for all the biased things I've said 'cause I felt like a fool...very embarrassing.

I LOVE Lexus, but their lack of excitement in new models has made me really irritated. Even more, when the other Lexus fans began to talk nonsense (I know Lexus has its limits), it makes me really ashamed to be a Lexus fan.

I guess biased minds are really what messes up our world, but it's also that which keeps our world moving (That's why I joined AutoSpies). :)

001,
I do understand and agree with your perspective of Acura. It's a total shame what is happening there. But, no one auto manufacturer should be full of more shame than our own General Motors. It's long history of selling deadly junk to our own American public is horrifying. Their history of fighting ever effort to design safety into their automobiles and resisting efforts to recall those vehicles that were known killers far outweighs Acura's design idiocy, IMHO. And, for all those years that GM was the world's largest auto manufacturer, what example did GM show to the world? Talk about Acura wasting potential? Think about how much potential GENERAL MOTORS wasted! Their history is so tragic, it is beyond words. So, if you really want to select a manufacturer to genuinely hate... I'm afraid it would have to be GM.
Regards,

Well I guess I'm the fist one to say it.

Lexus.
Why? Because they jumped into the luxury car market without any prestige. They've come to the market and now when people think luxury, for some reason its always Lexus that comes to mind (for them at least). The new "Lexus Lanes" and lately when a car has a quiet cabin the review says "quiet as a Lexus". I'm not saying they don't make good cars (excluding the ES). But the vibe they send just pisses me off, I can't say why or how, it just truely bugs me when I see a Lexus.

Thats funny, I would have placed that blame on BMW fans that enjoy to Hate on Lexus consistently! And its funny that it never gets old. I love this site but the bias towards certain brands (BMW) and the hatred of others (Lexus) for bad reasons considering they have done very well in the states gets to the point where its just rediculous. And that is why I would chose BMW. Although they are one of my personal favorite brands, on this site, the rediculous fanboy agenda causes me to despise them sometimes. Everything that is up must come down. Likewise BMW's time is coming, just remember that! Now I would have likely chose a brand such as Saab, or Acura, or Mercury. Maybe Saab needs better advertisement or something but they just are not popular here. I never hear anything about or from them. I have never driven a Saab and I do not inspire to. They need to come with a product that is appealing to at least one demographic and execute it appropriately. With the new designs and direction coming from GM, I believe Saab also has to ability to jump along that train and tap those resources. They need new direction. As, 001 stated, Acura has way to much potential yet they dont utilize it. They need to fire their team of designers, and seperate the brand from honda. When I test drove the TL, it drove and handled just like my old Honda Accord I owned. Nothing special at all about it. (Lexus does not drive, feel or perform anything like Toyota; Infiniti doesnt like Nissan; So why does Acura feel like Honda. They could really get rid of the nameplate and made Acura models Honda's and I think they would be just as successful (or not). And mercury I feel is absolutely useless. Ford and Lincoln can cover and does cover their entire lineup. This is truly what is called rebadging. You can say Lexus rebadges everything but I feel that is unfair considering when you consider true rebadging comes from mercury. Again, Lexus feel diff than Toyota. Cant say the same about Mercury to Ford or Mercuty to Lincoln. And the cars are exact replicas with maybe a different grill and badge. I dont think Ford will lose market share if they ditch Mercury and cover their products with Lincoln or Ford. It may actually help seeing how they can dump all of their advertising dollars into either Lincoln or Ford only getting rid of the extra baggage.

hmmm....just to be evil i think i am going to repost my comment i made earlier(minus spelling errors)...let the hate end and love begin...(*evil laugh*)

Im sick and tired of all the fanboys and the name calling of each other, feel free to cut and paste this post to where all the asian vs european debates go with out end. FIRST everyone has their favorite car brand and type that is their opinion. Even a car with a 0 to 10 in 10 seconds can be a favorite because it saves them gas in times of high gas prices. SECOND the price of a car does not inheritly make it better or worse than others, however, obviously higher price cars usually are with higher quality materials, as the company can afford to do that knowing that people WILL buy that car even at a seemingly outrageous price, however that does not mean seemingly low priced cars are pieces of trash. In fact they maybe highly reliable, good on gas, and fun to drive. Just dont expect gold and ivory interiors and 0 to 60 in 3 seconds. THIRD the "Tuner" mindset versus the "Non-Tuner" mind set. This is general and not always the case but nevertheless: "tuners" like to take their cars upgrade them and beat faster more expensive cars. NOTE: People with european cars can be tuners too. Their ability to beat cars many times their value sometimes overboosts their ego. "Non-tuners" people who own cars that do not need to be upgraded (although its possible and some do) These cars are exotics, luxury and otherwise rare or hard to find cars. They can beat many other cars right out of the "box" without any modification and have high quality materials as well. However they usually also have a high price tag. The people who own these cars have money obviously but that doesnt make them inheritly stuck up, snotty, etc. There is a certain prestige about owning these cars and they could care less if some passed them on the street because usually they can "own" them on the track. There is a price to pay for prestige however, their ability to afford these cars can sometimes overboost their ego.

I am a tuner, and yes i have been guilty of having bias at times, against the multi-million dollars cars, but just because i cant afford them doesnt make them bad. So no more bias and no more bull, deboost me if you will to -100 i dont care and i wont make fun of you for it. Yes i am NismoNate, Nissans are my favorite, but I AM NOT A FANBOY. If this comment doesnt prove it nothing will.

P.S. FOURTH: SKILL of your driving of course, if you dont have the skill or the time to drive your cool car at its intended speed (talking about sports cars here folks) for example at a track, you cars coolness is WASTED but at least it look cool...

Agent 001 - Great article and great insight on Acura. I agree with you 100% so I will choose another brand that I hate, but for different reasons. Allow me to explain...

General Motors, specifically Cadillac. I had a bad experience when simply looking at cars. I went to a Cadillac dealer to check out the new CTS. I wasn't even out of the car yet when a pushy salesman was on me like a leach. After the introductions that neither of us remembered, I requested to see the CTS. This guy takes me to a whole row of last generation CTS's and asked me which one I wanted to look at on the interior. To his question I replied none requesting to see the new CTS. Oh, he replied and took me to another place on the lot where they had hidden the new CTS. The one new CTS they had was stripped including being the base engine. I asked if they had any direct injection CTS, he replied no and I tried to leave. He insisted I meet half the dealership staff including the sales manager who again tried to get me to look at the outgoing CTS. They managed to get my business card so for several weeks I was flooded with e-mails promising a great deal on the leftover CTS.

I don't care how good the product is, if General Motors doesn't reign in the sales staff and teach them how to deal with a more discriminate buyer, they will continue to have people leave the lot in search of better customer service. I know Ford is guilty of this as well, and of course several premium brands also (read what I wrote about my experience at Volvo last weekend).

BMW, Lexus and Mercedes buying experiences are for the most part different than Ford or GM experiences. If Cadillac truly wants to be world class, it needs to adopt world class customer service STARTING at the TIME of SALE.

As reader TagMan said, look at the resources wasted by GM, imagine how could they could have been if they had done it right from the beginning.

It's not really fair to blame Cadillac for the dealerships selling style. Thats like blaming Charmin for the way your treated at walmart. Dealerships are given videos and training books to tell how you're supposed to sell, but they don't enforce it. Its up to the dealer how he wants his people to sell. Some places give you the hard sell and some don't. That's just the way it is. And don't tell me I'm wrong because I was a car salesman at a nice, soft sell GM dealership for years.

I hate VOLKSWAGEN because I test drove the GTI and it was incredibly fun and I want one but since VW's reliability is crap and I don't want to spend more time at the dealer than on the road, I won't buy one. Thanks for nothing VW. What a tease.

Get over it, VW reliability is good, in Europe their ratings are high, check out the latest studies here, they are good. What is the difference between an average of 1 problem per 100 cars and 1.2 problems per 100 cars?

I am on my second GTI, 1st was 2006, now a 2008, and have not had ONE issue, both have been perfect, they are amazing cars. My best friend bought one and again, not a single issue.

Get real.

I agree with steve - no issues with my VW. I sold my BMW E46 in for it. The BMW - as much as I liked it had nothing but problems.

Also - the engine in the GTI has won several international awards. The car has also won Car Of the Year as well.

I don't "hate" any specific auto brand, although there are a lot that really disappoint me.

Acura is one, for sure--Honda has great engines and engineering, but no vision for the brand or its styling. HUMMER is an atrocity--it was when gas was $1.50 and it is now at $4.00 . . . they should just shit-can it. And Chrysler LLC is a major disappointment--how could you completely blow it in just a few years? I don't see the purpose of bringing back this moribund company.

The one brand I hate is Toyota. Not because they buld boring cars or sell "luxury" Toyota's (Lexus), it's more that they sell the company as american. I am a big fan of racing and the cars, uniforms and people have the american flag stuck all over them. It's kinda insulting. What I read and I cannot remember where as it was a while ago, was that the american auto industry in Michigan lost over 400,000 jobs in the last few years. So I cringe every time I hear one of the Toyota supporters state how they are employing americans. What about the ones that have lost their jobs? No mention of them. Yes I know how the big three threw away the market with poor cars and terrible service. But that was before not now. What about just supporting america? Maybe there is a price for that. Last but not least, no, I am not a blue collar union guy. I own a 10mm business and believe I have an overview that might be skewed but that is because I am proud to be an american that supports America. Are you and do you?

I would not say I "hate" acura, but disappointed...

for hate, that award goes to Lexus....they produce reliable transportation, no doubt, but what I hate is the image and how they, Toyota, have manufactured it.

It has not been through innovation, design, racing prowess, nor risk...it has been completely by marketing gimicks (the LS Hybrid), clever associations (posh leather goods that the upwardly mobile perceive as luxury), and 'borrowing' from others work and passion.

Why can't they take some risks? Design a car that does not rely upon the European design studios for cues or concepts, and yet when they do they somehow still come up with a vanilla design that screams 'average' or 'safe' (design wise)or 'we're similar, part of the group' but by wearing the L badge tells the masses that it is Luxury....do something that leads the pack, not constantly following, waiting to see what sells...

my image of lexus and what they stand for is the ES...nothing more than a tarted up Toyota..and yet one of their most successful cars...none of the other manufacturers would do this, none..for Lexus its about sales and nothing more, while with the others you get the impression there is a battle between passion and sales, with a compromise that works..hate the image, don't mind the cars.

lexus because...

1. incongruent self-perception. they think they make exciting cars that young, affluent people would like to buy. in reality, they make reliable boring comfy cars that old people adore.

2. they are largely rebadged toyotas

3. they focus on the service experience rather than the DRIVING experience

4. boring designs

5. no manual transmissions (except the tacoma transmission in the IS250)

6. no ability to order cars as you want, they all come with same packages.

7. they all seem to be white, silver or black. how about some color variety?

8. numb, lifeless handling

9. the two biggest sellers, RX and ES, are painfully boring cars

10. the hybrids. hypocrisy on wheels. nothing 'green' about a 5000 pound car that gets 20mpg.

11. self-rightious hybrid drivers

12. lexus drivers don't actually know how to drive. i seem to get cut-off or nearly backed-into by a 65 year old lexus driver almost every day.

Although I appreciate their engineering I have to say I hate both Honda and BMW. Honda because it just seems to people that buy them are sheep. No matter how big and ugly they get people buy them just because of Honda's past (and its a admittedly good one) reliability. The Civic looks like GM's first mini vans. GM gets dogged for the look and Honda gets loads of sales. The interiors will always be high quality but their looks on all of their models is horrendous. Anyone who says they are aesthetically pleasing is lying to themselves. Now for BMW, for most of my life I loved them and wanted one. At age 22 I got drive my first 5 series and understood what it meant to drive a BMW, they truely rode and handled and braked better than anything. 20 years later however and every freshmen in college has one and every 17 school girl around here does as well. I am not a sexist or ageist but you cant tell me that some junior in high school wants a BMW because she knows that they are the Ultimate Driving Machine and not just the Ultimate Hair Drying Machine. Driving one used to mean something. Now its just a symbol of status. I am almost glad that Subaru hasn't caught on like this.

I agree with you entirely on the transition BMW has unfortunately gone through. It has moved from revered to popular and chic, which is sad indeed. People buy them now because of its image and brand resonance, performance is simply a benefit.

That is why I cringe at the introduction of every new BMW model. It waters down the once pure, unique nature of BMW to a mere luxury brand.

I actually think BMW makes great cars but on this forum they are over hyped. So, actually, I used to "hate" the older GM cars because when I would work on them I would get so frustrated. They seemed to be put together without any thought of someone working on them and the parts were not so good.

It is difficult to say that I hate a certain manufacturer. Now were you to ask me for the specific vehicles that I hate I would have a much easier time.

So, in general not really for their product lineup (although for the past 5 years or so, their interiors have been a joke- but they seem to be fixing the materials a bit), but more for the behavior of their drivers and some of the executives- BMW. That whole mess with the BMW executive and Audi, the executive may as well have stated that he was a social climbing parvenu- his behavior was exceptionally plebeian.

As far as the other side of the perceived fight, Lexus, frankly I feel nothing; which just might be worse.

The answer is Ford/GM/Hyundai/Acura

Ford is lazy in development and always is 5 years behind the competition. Have done nothing with Lincoln. Quality is iffy on their best day.
I worked for them, so I know!

GM has all the talent, but pioneered "Planned Obsolescence". Have challenged the Japanese, and then been humiliated, countless times. Could have done better, but has just now decided it's time to do their best. Too little too late.

Hyundai for copying Toyota on the cheap, and not willing to invest in their brand. Not ready, and won't admit it. Haven't put the time in.

Acura is Honda's albatross that has languished in mediocrity for over 2 decades. REFUSE to sell what the US wants, and pays the price everyday for it.
Ego killed this brand. See GM.

I'll take it a step further. As a BMW driver myself I will concede that in certain demographics BMW is no longer perceived as a luxury brand. In Los Angeles for instance, everyone and their uncle drives a BMW 3 series. I've seen more BH housewives driving the latest M3's than respectable gear heads. To these housewives, 0 to 60 describes their age group. I wouldn't doubt that there's more BMW's than Honda's in certain parts of the city. Which brings up the next point. In a funny way Lexus could be considered exotic because not as many people drive them in this town.

I still like BMW as a car company, even with it's flaws. It just isn't as special anymore. At least in this town.

I used to be really irritated with GM. I didn't think they did us right, their own domestic market. They produced fantastic cars abroad for sale but nothing here but junk. Now that is changing rapidly. GM is not only bringing over their overseas offerings but really sprucing up their current cars which were already sold here. If they can hang on I think they will have a big comeback.

I wouldn't say I hate any brand in particular but I dislike one company's move to try to clone another's interior. Despite me owning an LS460 I can't ignore the fact that the optional long wheel base version has rear seats that look like they were taken straight out of a Maybach.

Lexus has always turned to Mercedes for styling cues but the rear seating idea is a complete knock off. It may not look exactly the same but we all know where it came from. And because that the fanboys thought the LS600HL was a true ultra luxury contender?. Not even close!

The LS tried to clone the S-Class in the past now it's doing it from the back seats!. I drive an S550 as well but other than the LWD model with the Maybach-inspired seats there's nothing to hate about it, the styling may be a bit bland but it's a good ride.

1. BMW (Badgewhore Motor Works)

There's not even a close second :)

Surprisingly, I didn't always hate on this brand, with cars like the legendary 2002 and in recent years the e46 M3, they deserve the reputation as building well engineered and reasonably affordable cars that are fun to drive. However, in recent years - with their aggressive marketing and product placement, they have clearly shifted their focus to maximizing profits and lining their own pockets through cost cutting and questionable workmanship; it is clear as day they have morphed into a different animal from the years past.

BMW doesn't sell you a car anymore they sell you a "lifestyle", as the brainwashed masses will tell you owning a BMW now means you are "affluent", "beautiful" and have "upscale lifestyle". BMW marketing has been so successful in programming the subconscious of impressionable minds that even burger flippers at Wendy's can be seen driving around in broken down e36 and 318ti's that have headlights held in place by duck tape and tied down trunks lids; doesn't matter to them that they may have blow entire months paychecks on $200/hr service fees and costs as long as they have the famous blue and white roundel on the hood.

BMW is all about cost cutting, it like they go through each car and say to themselves "will they still buy if we do this?" or "can we charge the same amount even if we remove this?" etc., why do you think they use run-flats tires? is it because they want you to feel safer? or to save weight and provide better dynamics? nope. the bottom line they don't need to spend that extra $50 per vehicle.

That is the brilliance of their marketing, to an average joe, proving run-flats does seem like if provide more security and shaves weight of the car, but in reality having to shell out $300-400 on new a tire cause you can't "plug" a run-flat and $200 more because you also have to "alignment" etc., this get old real fast, in addition to the fact that special tools are need to do this service.

BMW's are designed to make it's owners dependent on dealerships. Why do they use special wiper blades that cost $100 to replace, and why do they use special canister oil filters that smaller garages don't carry, or the special transmission fluids that need to be flown in from German... it's all because it was designed that way to you addicted to the expensive and not easily substituted maintenance.

How about this "Free Maintenance"... (which it really isn't, as it's actually already built in to the MSRP)

BMW knows that having the so called free maintenance is a great marketing tool to make people buy their products as the average joe once again feels they are getting something for nothing. But in reality all you get are the minimum 3 oil changes during the lease term. That's 1 oil change every 15,000 miles! even with BMW's great engines, you cannot go this long between serving and have that engine not suffer any physical damage which will surface

sectorsector - 8/24/2008 11:32:58 PM

... later in life even if syntheic oils are used. But BMW once again knows that you will turn that car in at the end of lease to lease another and another etc. so it'll be the sucker who purchases that "certified pre-owned" to deal with the after effects of that compromised engine.

BMW is all about lining their pockets through a continuous income stream in the form of cheap vehicle leases which stabilized their cash flow and like a smart drug dealer, they know once they have you hooked and dependent on them though "free maintenance" and needed dealership only serving, you will always come back for some more and more etc.

sstainba, yes I've driven many BMWs, I know a guy who was a computer diagnostic tech at a dealership, now he works for Lexus :)

My neighbor has a '05 Silver E46 M3, it's a great car, drinks gas like a V8 though. My uncle had a 5 series that was in the garage more than on the road, he declared he'll never buy another BMW, I also drove it the first day he bought it, it was nothing special, now he drives a E class.

The run-flat tire is still a major drawback as it is ridiculously expensive to replace, and can't be easily repaired, what's the point of using a set of tires you can't easily fix or find replacement for? BMW had severe problems (and still do) with Bridgestone’s Turanza run-flat tires that even has lawsuit pending in the courts, many owners complained of "cupping" and extremely rough ride and excessive noise having to be replaced only after 10-15k miles at the tune of $2200!

This is all because of cost cutting by BMW to save that $50 per vehicle.

Hope you didn't buy that filter at Walmart, you need to buy OEM from BMW dealership. Another cost cutting by BMW - they don't have dipsticks... for those who want to check accurate oil levels the dash readout don't cut it, to correctly measure how much oil is there you have to completely drain the engine! $5 saved for BMW, but a lot of headaches added on for the average owner...

They've already taken two beautiful Holden cars and found a way to make the front ends unappealing (GTO, G8). I'm all for consistency within a brand but start with something that's not a modified/uglified BMW grill.

They do make good "beginner" cars, for first time drivers that are bound to crash them (fortunately getting these things off the streets).

People choose BMW as a brand that they hate because plenty of people buy them? Hello Morons! Just because plenty of people buy BMW's (at a premium no less) doesn't mean that they are crappy cars. Get a clue. BMW build great cars regardless of who buys them.

Here are the car brands that I hate.

1) Lexus - Boring soft cars that have Americans tricked into believing that Toyotas are the best cars in the world. LOL!

2) Acura - Cars built on the Honda Accord platform aren’t what I would consider to be “premium”.

3) Audi - Overpriced, underperforming cars. Audi is the first to offer a 4-cylinder car that over $45K. And Audi has never built a V6 for the American market that wasn’t overpriced, underpowered or both

4)MB - Unless you spend over $75,000 expect Honda V6 accord-like acceleration (if that)

5) Toyota - Boring lifeless appliances

6) Nissan - Cheap plasticky cars

7) Subaru – If it weren’t for the WRX,, Subi would be another Totoya

The Article is about brands that you hate. Isn't it? I messed up for even mentioning BMW, and you messed up by saying that "that is all I had to say".

Hyundai - Because they don't create anything unqiue, they just steal from others.

Honda - Starting to go down this road too with their new 5 Series...I mean Accord.

AUDI

Why do I hate audi? Geez...where do I start. Lets start with the B8 RS4. The RS4 represents MOST of what I hate about audi.

When the RS4 came out sometime in late 2006 (as a 2007) it was all the rave. Magazines everywhere were bragging about how fast it was (108mph trap time) compared to its counterparts (E46 M3 and W203 C55).

-Speed: Well its defintely faster. Not by much though. The M3 and C55 could both easily trap 107 quarter mile times. I dont think a 2mph faster trap time warrants all the fuss that the RS4 was receiving.

-Timing: The RS4 came out a full 5 yrs later than the E46 M3. Is this supposed to be impressive? It shouldnt be. Proven by the fact that Audi no longer manufactures the B8 RS4.

-Pricing: When car and driver reviewed the car alongside the E46 M3 and the W203 C55, the RS4 had a "price as tested" of nearly 80,000USD. When CarandDriver reviewed the RS4 again, this time along side the E92M3 and W204 C63, it "as tested" was 81k (vs 70k for the M3 and 73k for the C63). Now this bothers me. I think people would agree that Audi does not have a higher brand value than BMW and Mercedes. Where does this price difference come from? A few things.
- Manufacturing: Manufacturing or a product becomes cheaper over time because the manufacturing process improves and because material costs go down as more quantities are purchased.
- Material Cost: The RS4 simply has more mechanical materials than its competitors. Mainly Quattro
- Quantity: The more you buy of something the cheaper the price/unit ratio becomes in a vender/buyer relationship [material venders/audi]
** Now...all 3 of these things explain why the RS4 was so expensive.
-Manufacturing- Audi could not manufacture massive quantities of the RS4 because they knew it would not be popular. They knew nobody would buy the damn thing. For godsakes, it costs 11k more than its 2 current rivals and 15k more than a fully loaded E46 M3 or C55. Because it traps 2mph faster? I think even Audi knew that most people arent this stupid. Well some people were because they still sold some RS4.

-Material Cost- Quattro is expensive to manufacture and maintain. Now look guys, I know that quattro is what gives Audi their distinct identity but the simple matter of the fact is that the RS4 did NOT need quattro and as a matter of fact most sedans do not even need 4WD/AWD...especially baseline A4's and A6's or A8's. As a matter of fact Im going to say any car that weighs around 3500-4000lbs and has 400hp or less (i.e. 200hp 1.8T AUDIs) do not need AWD and in most cars and cases AWD hinders performance rather than improves it. Also, AWD (quattro) is by default more expensive and more prone breakage than a FWD or RWD car. This maintainance cost also factors into the RS4 price.

-Quantity - Well like i said, they werent going to make alot of them because they knew that nobody was going to buy the damn thing.

So basically the RS4 is a car that came out 5 yrs later than it

"Lets start with the B8 RS4."

Funny you mention that. The B8 RS4 doesn't exist yet.

Cheers. I don't feel like getting back into to the turmoil of this site so I'm not going to try to dissuade you. Enjoy your car. I'll enjoy mine.

So basically the RS4 is a car that came out 5 yrs later than its main rival (E46 M3), was barely any faster in a straight line (2mph faster trap speed), Cost a staggering 17k more starting than the E46 M3 (15k more when both are fully loaded because the M3 has so many options) and a 7k more starting and 11k more fully loaded than a E92 M3 (which the RS4 is defintely slower than in every category not involving rain or snow or any type of ambiguous/dangerous weather condition in which people shouldnt be driving hard with a 400+ hp car anyways).

Rest of Audi Line up:
THEY ALL LOOK THE SAME. Audi is the only car manufacture I know where the smallest sedan and largest sedan look exactly like compressed or stretched out versions of each other. For a while if the car wasnt up close and still, i couldnt even tell if it was a A4 or A6. Audi most save TONS of money on design costs cause they probably only pay 1 person. Then they take that design and add 1 or 2 feet of length to it and call it a A6 or A8.

Quattro: YOU DONT NEED QUATTRO and its expensive. In most cars it adds 5k ontop of the regular rwd model like in the BMW 3 series lineup and with Mercedes 4-Matic. Quattro does NOT help you corner faster in ANY dry weather conditions and as a matter of fact in dry weather conditions would overall make you lap slower. And its dry most of the year people. If you live in california it on rains like 20 days out of 365 days. Why do people make 15k mistakes based on 20 days out of the year??

Audi: Its an Audi. The brand is not as prestigious as BMW or Mercedes. Its the truth. Call me an elitest but its true.

1.8T/2.0T/2.7TT: These drivers consistantly drive recklessly have annoyingly loud fartcan exhausts and are still slow. The 2.7TT driver is probably the worst. Ive yet to meet 1 that wouldnt shut up about how their MODIFIED B5 S4 2.7TT was faster than my STOCK C32 (in most cases it was not). They never stop talking about boost, downpipes, cutting. Please buddy, if I wanted to get a car that was 5 yrs older, dump a bunch of mods in it, RUN RICH and leave gasoline smell residue everywhere i go, and STILL BE SLOWER, i would have gotten an audi too. but I didnt, so dont talk to me ok?

Le Mans: AUDI didnt start winning Le Mans until Porsche and Mercedes stop racing. Now audi only beats private teams like prodrive. Audi doesnt even race F1, the premiere racing league. How is audi can justify all this racing pedigree hype?

i have WAY more to say but my fingers are getting tired.

BTW. the love the Audi R8. Go audi
rant over.

4.2 Liter V8: Audi used what is basically the same 4.2 Liter 330-350 Hp V8 that it as been using since 1998. From the 1998 A8 till now in the S5. Great innvations

Agree with you on Acura 001 - what waste on what could be a great mid-luxury reliable brand (piggybacking on reputation of Japanese cars alone).

On premise though, post topic is a little "Lack of News-ish" - we fight the good fight on a day to day basis - no need for an egregeous story to make the point.

I hate any car company that relies on an intagible idea or history that is no longer relevant in order to sell a product, for example:

"Prestiege" - recognition for history has nothing to do with a brand new product. For exmaple, the Jaguar X-type, while a Jag, was pure garbage.

Country of Origin - The 3 big players have all created incredible machines over the past century (USA, Germany, Japan).

Arrogance - Do I really need to elaborate on this?

Most of all, I hate when someone refuses to even look into the possiblity of driving a car due to the opinions of their peers. This makes you a fashion/brand/trend whore. It is narcissitic and pathetic. Grow up.

I hate Lexus.

They are not about innovation, but refinement.

Innovation is what I care about, and articulating headlights and battery packs are not what I am talking about.

Lexus has a strange, in-bred line-up, due to Toyota's practices of conservatism and incremental improvement.

I admire practically every other car company, compared to Lexus. BMW, Mercedes, Infiniti, even VW. These car brands take chances, they design with emotions--real, human emotions that Lexus will then put into a computer and try to emulate.

Lexus is a Pharisee-mobile. It's such a personal thing with me. I just can't stand the meaning of Lexus in America. It's a soul-sucking non-feeling brand. Give me a jerk in a BMW cutting me off all day. The guy's a human being at least.

I'm done now.

I cant hate lexus. They are nice cars. I would like to have one, i just like performance hence why i like BMW.
The manufacturer i probably hate the most is Ferrari.

Most useless junk on the road. Worst quality ever. Every person i know who either has owned or owns a Ferrari complain about it breaking down.
The new Ferrari in the market. How ugly can a car get? I used to think Subaru didnt know how to draw, but now the Italians?
