Infiniti's entry-level coupe is still three years away

We keep hearing about a baby Infiniti coupe that will compete with the likes of BMW 1-Series and Audi’s A3 - but don’t expect it to hit the market anytime soon. Shiro Nakamura, global design director for Nissan Motor Co., says that there is quite a demand for an car smaller than the G37 outside the U.S., but Nissan executives are still studying the segment. He said that an entry-level Infiniti could still be at least three years away.

Nakamura said that if Infiniti does go ahead with a small car - it will keep the essence of Infiniti and that it is ‘quite important to maintain rear-wheel-drive for the Infiniti line.’

The G is already smaller than the 1 Series inside. This baby Infiniti they might have to call the T37 for tuna can if they shrink that interior any more.

BTW how long do you think before they announce they are going to be copying BMW's 4 cylinder strategy?

Ah the J30. My mom used to have one before her S430. It was such a fun car and very fast as well. Isn't the closest thing to a J30 a G35 Sedan now?

This one probably will be equipped w/ 2.5L and 2.5L turbo so it can be easily differentiated from 3.7L NA engine.

However this will mean it's unique in the whole NISSAN family, unless sharing that w/ next Silvia.

They should make a new flagship car. The 2011 or 2012 Q!. If they want to be considered a true contender they need that Q-ship.
