Which is Faster, The RS6 Or The R8? The Answer May Surprise You

Which is Faster, The RS6 Or The R8? The Answer May Surprise You
The view down the mile straight as you stand on the tarmac is distorted by heat haze. It’s still early, so track temperature isn’t the cause. Look again and at the centre of this shimmering scene there’s the rapidly shrinking rump of a fast-moving vehicle – one that’s rather taller and blockier than we’re accustomed to here. There’s noise, too. Not a V8 roar, but a flatter sound. Let’s call it a persistent bellow. The Audi RS6 has landed in the UK and it’s monstering Millbrook. Best keep out of its way.

We’re here to answer a simple question: which is the fastest Audi on sale today, this five-seat, two-ton estate running on a surfeit of steroids, or the scalpel-sharp, mid-engined sports car that is the R8? Audi claims that they post identical 0-62mph and 0-124mph times, namely 4.6sec and 14.9sec respectively, but is this really the case? And are the two cars just as closely matched in all the other performance disciplines? That’s what we want to find out.

Both are quite fast, and there isn't much of a surprise, the RS6 is a beast.

Wow. I expected a lot more from the R8. It's always been known that it is not a top performer in comparison the 911, ZR1, and of course the GTR, but getting spanked by your pregnant old sister, that's just embarrassing.

the R8 isn't meant to compete will all of those in straightline performance, but it does pretty well on most tracks

and the RS6 avant will take the GTR on California gas

Isn't it obvious that the RS6 would win? Yeah I know it's an avant, but look at all the horsepower!

the mass didn't slow it down

obviously, but the extra mass comes from the good stuff, the powerful engine, the sport oriented suspension, big wheels and tires and so on.

I am sure there is some weight to cut down on, but I think the overall package is quite compelling.

The RS6 beating the GT-R. Sure chewy, let's see, the GT-R does 0-155mph in 21.5 seconds. I suppose it could happen, if if they raced in fantasy land lolz.

On Drivers-republic.com the new 385hp Carrera S already beat the GT-R in a drag race.

in one car and driver test it took longer than 23 seconds, the GT-R times have been very inconsistent

Id take an RS6 (Saloon or Avant) over an R8

The RS6 has the more powerful engine, I EXPECTED it to be faster than the R8 in the straights. Who cares!? Both are sweet machines.
