BMW 3 SERIES VOTED "AMERICA'S BEST SEDAN" BY READERS OF AUTOWEEK

The all-new BMW 3 Series was voted "America's Best Sedan" by the readers of AutoWeek in this year's "America's Best" survey. In an increasingly competitive marketplace this year's award represents the fourth time that a 3 Series has been named "America's Best Sedan" by readers of AutoWeek and the eighth time that a BMW 3 Series has appeared on the list of "America's Best."

Commenting on their readers' selection of the new 3 Series as "America's Best Sedan" the editors of AutoWeek noted, "The 3 is simply a pleasure to drive, anywhere, anytime. That?s why it remains one of your favorites - and one of ours."

"We're delighted to receive this acknowledgement from the readers of AutoWeek," said Tom Purves, Chairman and CEO of BMW (US) Holdings. "Launching a new 3 Series is an important event for us because, in many ways, it represents the core of our brand. Driving pleasure is at the heart of every product we sell. To receive such an award from a dedicated group of enthusiasts means a great deal."

The all-new 2006 3 Series Sedan went on sale on May 6th with a starting price of just $30,995 for the 325i including, as does every BMW, full maintenance for 4 years or 50,000 miles.

the new 3-series is just fantastic. Expensive, but well worth it, just as Autoweek editors and readers concluded. I have mine on order!

The Audi A4 3.2 quattro manual was recently tested in Europe. It made 0-60 in about 6.2 seconds. The two wheel-drive A4 3.2 made it at about 6.0 seconds.

That's about the same as the new 3 series; and the Audi boasts a more flexible V6 with a much more powerful and broad torque range.

The Audi A6 is not in the same class as the BMW 3 series , so a straight line comparison is not applicable.

However, the Audi A6 and BMW 5 series post the exact same straight line performance when the same drivetrains are properly compared (all-wheel drive vs. all wheel drive, two wheel drive vs. two wheel drive).

So relax with the "in the dust" comments. You don't know what you're talking about.

.. what makes the 3 series such a benchmark is its perfectly balanced sports dynamics coupled with luxury refinement.

It's a luxury sports sedan in the truest sense.

If you're alluding that I correlated 0-60 times with performance, then that was not my intention. I was stating a fact to correct an ill-informed poster.

Although I admire Audi for successfully taking on BMW and Mercedes (and its aggressive plan to surpass both brands by 2010), I don't for a second doubt the new BMW 3 series' supremacy in its class.

2006 BMW 3 Series, no doubt is the best car in it's category.

But many issues came after 2006 BMW 3 Series as:
1)The new 3 series is totally 100 % different from it's predessor.
2)The people who loved previous car may don't feel the new one is more better. In other words they may stick with their older car.
3)Engine displacement and HP is lessly incresed in the new model than the weight and size
4)It is expensive than before
5)Partly lost it's sporty look and more looks like an overstylized luxury car like older brother 5 Series.

THE biggest of all issues is that it has got many good competitors on the road which are equally good like Audi A4/S4,Lexus IS,VW Passat,Infiniti G35,...etc

Therefore, it is not fare or good to say BMW 3 Series as American best Sedan before time as we have to wait for the year 2006 to completly know about it's popularity and sales compare to it's competitors.

The newest model of the 3 serie is diffenently a nice ride but I wish they spend time on the interior too. The interior in most BMW does Not look like you drive a lexury car, although it is a lexury but the interior need improvement.

As as it being it best class, we have to wait and see that when the New 2006 IS350 which was tested on track,0-60 5.5 or 5.6 second now that fast.

Let just wait and find out who will in this class this year, and they are, the Audi A4, G35, BMW 3, Lexus IS350. I think the IS is going to take First place this year, second place, BMW 3 series, third, G35, Four Audi A4, but I might be Wrong so let for the professional to test drive all of this cars together.

The reason why I like Lexus is because they a balance between performance and Lexury. Their vechicle has the muscle to pump 307 horse power and at the same time, it got Lexury.

The IS also has Sport package which is call IS460 with 450+ horse power.
