2009 Bmw Z4 to receive 3.0-liter bi-turbo engine

Finally, due to some spy photos, we are able to confirm some features of the next generation BMW Z4 prototype. What is for sure is that the car received a retractable hardtop which seems to be a two piece metal roof. The new prototype will be developed on the latest 3-series underpinnings keeping the same dimensions to the current model but adding an inch or more in length and width. The car will be powered by a new generation 3.0L bi-turbo straight six engine which will be capable of 326HP in the new 740i. For the European market it will also be available a version with an entry-level no frills 2.0L4-cylinder engine version.

The bi-turbo in this is going to be sweet. However, I wish they were sticking with the cloth top instead of the hardtop. The Z4 is supposed to be a hardcore roadster. The hardtop just adds weight. If you want a hardtop, go with the 328/335i convertibles.

there's been a bunch of speculation about that over the past year. I've heard BMW was coming out with a lower Z model (Z1? Z2?) that will fit what you described. But then it was also reported at one time that the new Z4 would be available in both a softtop and a hardtop so you could choose if you wanted a Boxster or SLK type vehicle. It was even reported that BMW was considering renaming the Z4 the Z5 or Z6 to further differentiate it from the outgoing model and push it more upmarket. Who knows?

It suppose to be, but it's not. It's the shame of BMW family as the electric steering is numb as hell, NO DIFFERENCE FROM A CAMRY.

BMW knows that and that's why this time they'll put a turbo engine to offset the weight of proper hydraulic steering system.

This 3.0T is a great engine and mating it to the Z4 will just make it a more desirable car. Cant wait to see the final product, but with the direction BMW has gone lately I'm sure it will not disappoint anyone.

I just came back from lunch with my boss and his slammed Z4 and I tell you it is quite a thrill to ride on it. We had his iPhone integrated to the accelerometer simulator and it's fun to read to Gs in the corners. Is that enough information punk? I'll let it slide this time because (other than you're my bro) I also find the S30 a fascinating car.

I'm excited for it. The convertible doesn't do anything for me but the coupe is stunning. With a new engine and better handling, what could be bad?
