GM to temporarily halt Corvette production,

The General will be cutting production of the vehicle that is often cited as a proof of recession, the Chevrolet Corvette. Confirming with Automotive News, GM will halt production of the Corvette for a week starting Oct. 6. It will then reduce the assembly line speed and lay off some employees.

“We’ve weathered a lot of downturns,” Eldon Renaud, president of UAW Local 2164 in Bowling Green told Automotive News. “But I think this one has finally lasted long enough and people are concerned enough about the economy that it’s probably having a minor effect.”

Why are you always negative to everything? Theres no doubt that BMW are great machines and I love driving them (my brother, my cousin and my girlfriend has BMWs), but there are other cars that are great too.

Say what you want but the Corvette is one of the last great American cars. It was one of the first cars to use hydroformed body components. The pushrod technology is a bit backwards but it's something GM did well. Would I miss the Corvette if they stopped making it, probably not. Would it be a tragedy for the automotive world, you bet.

I would have to eat shards and debris before owing a Silly Multi-Gear transmission or anything with a computer that tries to imitate a manual transmission. Like that does anything better over a standard. And theres nothing to brag about the M6 styling. the vettes of the past in terms of styling will blow your bimmers fuglyness away. Its got more class than your BMW. Get out of your cave troll, you fail immensely.

In my 93 Corvette, I have gotten an average of 30.2 MPG. There is no problem with so-called "outdated" pushrod engines. I also have 300hp.

This is an shame, GM has done a great job on this car. These are selling at thousands under list now, it's a great value. I hope the economy makes a positive turn in 09.

the corvette is a joke. too big, too large of an engine, over priced. it is a joke compared to real sports cars that dont need a 6 liter engine to perform.
