Is He Being Fair?: Governor Declares State Of Emergency After Calling Gas Companies Rapists
Beshear says “we have received information that the supply of reformulated gasoline (rfg) will be severely limited for several days, which could escalate the price at the pump even further for consumers in Louisville and Northern Kentucky. Therefore, I plan on Monday to formally request from the federal Environmental Protection Agency a limited or temporary waiver from the use of RFG.”

It comes one day after Beshear declared a state of emergency in Kentucky in an effort to prevent price gouging.

There is a degree of absurdity around having oil at $95 and fuel rising close to $4, but the refineries are just covering their asses. They know that they're going to have to slow, or shut down, production soon, so they're making sure their profits don't take a massive hit.

I like how the gov is taking preventative measures, but they are completely uncalled for. There is absolutely no reason to declare a state of emergency because of high fuel costs. This will not cripple the economy because of the short duration of the event.

Actually by calling a State of Emergency, he is allowing price gouging controls to fall into play.

In Texas they already threw those measures into play just before Gustav as a preventive factor. The end result was a price spike of 8¢ to 10¢ a gallon in my area, vs. $1.50. Sounds more like Kentucky underestimated that damage it would do in their state.

Since the cost of a oil went down below $100/barrel, shouldn't fuel prices soon decline to $3.25-$3.50/gal --- as they were when oil reached $100/gal less than a year ago?
