HOWEVER, the A5/S5/RS5 are among the best looking coupes on the road today. In the "flesh" this car is stunning - especially in motion.

Big. Mistake.

Audi is going to take massive losses! The RS6 was supposed to give the M5 some actual competition, but now they're just playing around. The RS5 is going to be a sick car, don't get me wrong, but it's also in class of its own. There is no way that Audi will be able to do comparison testing because the closest model might be the M3 coupe with a few performance mods.

Why can't the RS6 give the M5 competition now? Just because they're not bringing it to the US? Europe is where those cars are true icons.

Massive losses? How many S6's are sold here, and how many RS6's do you think they would sell? I am hugely disappointed as I really like the S6 and would have loved to see this car. At least the RS5 & RS4 are coming soon and in the article it sounds like more is on the way in the future.

The wagon version of the RS6 posted almost identical numbers as the CTS-V. So the sedan is likely to be somewhat quicker.

Audi is kinda copying Ford in F'ing the US market right up the tailpipe.

Ford gave the Euros a nice sexy Mondeo and now a new Focus with an ST5 coming that has crazy power. We got the Fusion (not horrible, but not a Mondeo), and a redesigned Focus on the same old platform with the same old engine and no performance version and wheel gap that would make a Caterpillar front loader laugh out loud.

Ford also puts the Ka out in the Euro market with a sports version that would really drive home the market of the small cars like the Fit, Versa, Yaris. A performance version would have left them in the dust. We get nothing in that category, but the upcoming Verve maybe promising, if and when it comes.

Audi denies the US the RS6 for reasons that dumbfound many, the M5 is left with the CTS-V and E-class as it's only competition. VW did the same thing with the Scriocco that is staying in Europe as well.

Keep in mind that Audi had also said they wouldn't be bringing the RS4 Cabriolet here. There was one driving behind me on my way home today.

Nice car but the prices that Audi set for US are aberrant. I bet the RS5 will be overpriced judging after the ridiculously high prices Audi set for the other models.

The USA consumers would frown at the price Audi would want to charge for their RS6.

I priced up an S5 Coupe in Munich the other week, With most options and Audi 20in wheels it came up to 74,000 Euros

Exactly, the most you can option out the S5 in the US is 64,190.

Audi is fine with selling the S5 for about $20,000 more in Germany than it does in the US (accounting for taxes)

I just got the latest issue of CAR magazine here in the US and they have a lot more pictures and data then just spy shots. The rear spoiler actually deploys out to create extra downforce at higher speeds.....the pictures are awesome!!

Audi would only sell about 1,000 RS6s, and certification costs and changes would cost some money.

BMW is selling M5 at a hefty discount in the US.

Didn't know BMW has making a profit in the US? M5 sell at steep discounts. Audi knows how to make money. Just check their financials to see that. It's obvious.

My money would be on a Supercharged Jag XF or XF-R, sexy motors...

An M5 sedan starts @ 111,116 dollars in Germany.

An M5 sedan starts @ 85,100 dollars in the US.

As you can see by doing the math (find the difference between the two) BMW is willing to sell M5s for cheap in the US to get sales volume.

Audi knows that it will sell all of the RS6s that it is making, and it will be able to sell those RS6s for full price (not the discounted US price).

at least BMW gives there customers the cars they want, and dosent hold out b/c i will loose a few bucks, BMW even made a M5 manual for the us. BMW is loyal to its customers and the customers are loyal in return.Its a wonderful thing.

Car costs are not directly comparable when converting prices, this has been proven again. Because 1 US dollar here equals 2 there does not mean the same for a car. The rates are different as well as exahnges and importing.
