You have to admire them for aiming so high. Shoot for the stars and they may hit the moon (or at least the ceiling of their design room while bankrupcy attorneys pound on the door).

BMW will use that "notice" to wipe their ass with.

So, essentially what you're saying is that YOU will soon be utilizing said 'notice' as some kind of toilet paper substitute... As you so often appear to, in fact, be BMW's BIGGEST ass?

I'm happy about this. I think the new CTS is a great step forward for caddy and I would love to see a 3series competitor come out with a base price of 25-27k.

maybe true before 2008, but they're looking real good now. throw their 306hp engine into something a bit smaller, carry over the quality they put into the new cts, and you'll end up with a very fun ride for a very reasonable cost

It is much more likely that BMW is put on notice by Cadillac (which is considered a premium brand) than Hyundai putting Lexus on notice (which some dopes here claim they believe).

well, I hope they're aiming high, because by 2011 BMW will be pretty close to releasing their own brand new 3-Series.

Cadillac has already put BMW on "notice". Their CTS model with the direct-injection V6 is priced below the 335i sedan, but is almost as roomy as the 535i sedan.

I know this because I am scurrently hopping for a new car, and I am down to three "finalists" - the Cadillac CTS, Audi A4 and BMW 335i (2009 models all). Equipped as closely as possible, the Caddy is quite a bit cheaper than the Bimmer.

Oh yes - and let's not forget the competition the CTS-V will give the M5.

careful- get your facts straight here. the GM6 automatic is the only thing BMW gets from GM, and it's made in France. That's hardly "getting a powertrain from GM"-- it's the same automatic unit GM uses in several of its own vehicles yet it is criticized in those vehicles.... even so, I hear the new dual-clutch transmission may end up replacing the "traditional" automatic in the next-gen 3-er, due out about that time.

Yes the New 2011 Caddies will be good- but in 2012 the new 3 series will bow and due to significant changes(more space, power, much greater interior refinement,)I expect this car to put everyone else on notice and really change the game up quite a bit.

What!? The FWD Caddy BLS failed in European luxury market? I thought they already knew that only us Americans want front drive luxury (which baffles my mind)? They didn't even offer AWD to "try" to compete with Audi. See, Europeans know a Saab (or what used to be Saab) in sheep's clothing. I bet the Europeans remembered that us Americans had to suffer with the Caddy Cimmaron, which was nothing more than a Chevy Cavalier with red lipstick and blue eyeshadow on! Oh well, lesson learned. I hope.

Seriously speaking, us Americans should be thanking the Europeans for completely ignoring the BLS. It has helped Caddy and GM to get a clue. This RWD Alpha platform will be much more acceptable. Give the 3-series a run for it's money, NO. But a nice alternative, quite possibly. And for GM's sake, just in time.

sounds like a good plan.....again the title is overhyped....but i can imagine a car with the CTS quality, and styling, maybe a bit more aggresive with th e 3series ands sounds like a real winner. It would even make sense to take the CTS upmarket to compete with the 5,e,gs, and the STS/DTS replacement a 7,S,LS competitor, and use this new smaller car to replace the CTS in the lineup and not make it a low priced 25-28,000 cadillac but one priced along the lines of the CTS...either way im looking forward to it

Well competition is always good, especially for us 3 series loyalists--it makes BMW make the 3 series even better :)

2011 is when the new 3 series comes out, and if GM are benchmarking the current 3 series, it will hardly be putting anyone on notice...

hmm, when Cadillac beats BMW then it needs to beat Lexus for quality and reliability. So in short, Cadillac has a long road to take. When you buy a car you need to have a peace of mind, none of the "big" 3 offers that for sure. So good luck Cadillac, overall I do want to drive American cars someday, so please make us proud.

I guess none of you are in journalism. Wild Headlines sell! Yes Cadillac is progressing and I do not see why they cannot equal BMW. Besides I thought GM was shooting for the 5 Series with their CTS?!? It is always more difficult to 'win' in a foreign market. Good luck :)
