Mazda will cut weight by 200kg on next-generation models

Mazda said that they will be using three key methods to cut around 200kg from the next-generation versions of its cars.

The three methods include lighter materials, new design for the chassis underpinning the vehicles, and new material bonding methods.

Good for Mazda. Lowering weight of cars is one of the simplest solutions for increasing fuel efficiency, as well as performance and fun.

The Miata MX5 is around 2500lbs. It's a wonderful drive. What Mazda needs to do is to give us a MazdaSpeed MX-5, and the Miata would be a PERFECT drive.

2500lbs is what a medium size 4 door saloon should weigh, not a small sports car, the MX5 is far too heavy , it might feel like a sports car if all you have driven before is a soggy saloon, but after the likes of Lotus Elan, 1200lbs and MG Midget not a lot more, or even a Ginetta G33 with a 3.5 V8 1500lbs it`s an overweight barge
