New details on the 2011 Audi A8

The current Audi A8 has been on sale since 2003 and since that time has only received a minor facelift to keep it fresh alongside the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Lexus LS and soon-to-be superseded BMW 7-series.

The minor styling changes implemented during the recent facelift will have to soldier on for a few more years as the next-generation ‘D4’ A8 is, according to latest reports, is expected to arrive in the second half of next year.

When can I get an A8 4.2 TDI in North America?
Actually, an R8 4.2 TDI with DSG (if they can ever handle that much torque) would be even more fun.
But the A8 is still the most car you can get for under $100k and it doesn't scream "I'm a lawyer/stock-broker (BMW) or doctor/dentist (MB)" :)

"Model years" don't always line up with real years. I've seen some MY cars come out 6-8 months in advance of the actual year. Yeah, I can't figure out the reason either. Guess it's like fiscal years.

So Audi's moving towards the torque vectoring AWD system from the torsen differential? I thought that torsen differential was supposed to be superior despite being old. Or is torque vectoring being added on top of the torsen diff? Can somebody please explain?

The new Torque vectoring diff is just an addition to the Torsen system. The Torsen system regulates the power from front to rear and the torque vectoring diff regulates the power from side to side.

The current A8/S8 is the definition of understated beauty, however understated is the last thing I want the next A8 to be...This rendering is especially nice, adds sleekness to a dated design.

Why change what works? Porsche sure hasn't. The A8 is top in looks only behind the S-class.

I doubt you can get a W12 "off the lot". Generally, they are pre-ordered for the customer. So, your comment is not factual. I doubt they are dying on the lots as dealers don't just order them unless a customer pre-orders the car to their specifications and wants. Another BS anti-Audi comment.

An S8 is more common than a W12, so yes I can some CPOs on the lots of dealers just like with any other luxury brand's high-end cars these days. There might be some CPO W12s as well, but I doubt there are very many and new ones generally must be pre-ordered as they are highly customized by the customer to begin with.

Heyhoob, Audi used to have more than just one torque sensing differential on some models. I'd like to see torque sensing differentials front, center and rear even though it would add a couple of thousand to the price.
I like the reliability of the Torsen diffs as they operate in a purely mechanical manner and I simply do not trust automotive electronics as they do not have aerospace reliability.
