When there is a recall for a glove box latch from one of the big 3 US car companies everyone would be on here saying how much of a POS they are. If it's a German car with an issue that could potentially kill you no one cares. Of course if it were a Lexus or some other Asian car no one would hear about it because the mainstream press won't report on it.

Let me also add to this that I own both a GMC Yukon and BMW 3 series. I've owned the BMW for 7 years and the Yukon for 5. Neither have had any issues aside from normal maintenance. The people on here saying how crappy US vehicles are extremely misled... Or, they’re the ones trying to mislead.

Saying that this is an issue "that could potentially kill you" is like saying a butter knife could potentially kill you. The potential is there, but hardly as dramatic as you would make it seem. Loss of power steering underway isnt a big deal or have you never driven a car without power steering?

We use the metric system for all other measurements though, bar buying things like milk or meat. It's a bit of a hybrid system - we measure fuel consumption in MPG, but buy fuel in litres. Many British people may not consider themselves European, but they're happy to take advantage of all the perks, ie holidaying easily, bringing as much booze and cigarettes as you can from the EU (Portugal to Poland), no import taxes, foreign cars, foreign money (Like our airports run by British airports authority, which is owned by grupo ferrovial, or Bentley owned by VW), and the ease of buying property abroad. I am of no doubt that without all the assitance we have got from Europe over the past years we would not be in such a position as we are now, and I think that most British people, given the right information and proper questions, would agree.

BMW and Mercedes build cars for people who want the best in automotive and have the means to afford the best. The Japanese imitators only offer 50% of the German driving experience for a steep 80% price of the real thing. Buying Japanese is Not a good deal but gives the poorer part of the population a little taste of what the rich experience.

However, there is only one way to experience the real automotive perfection and of course I'm talking about buying one of the German masterpieces build by the gods of automotive themselves...BMW and Mercedes.
