Open Air Porsche- Literally

Open Air Porsche- Literally
When your thinking open air Porsche, you are most likely thinking one in the drop top form. This open-air Porsche though is one of a different kind. Its a 99 Porsche Boxster Convertible that literally runs on air itself.

The car, , known as the MIIN-AER debuted at the AltCar Expo 2008 in Santa Monica California and is made by GIMM Inc of the Silicon Valley. Just how does it work you ask? The MIIN-AER has "air storage tanks" in the front and a "patented multichambered engine." In order to get the " air power" one must plug the vehicle into a garage tire line and wait for 10 minutes. Beats hitting up the gas station and shelling out almost 4 dollar per gallon for premium.

This was a good idea...20 years ago in the dark ages of nicads and lead-acid.

These days it is just an interesting experiment, nothing more. There are 2 EV Boxster conversions underway right now, I will post more when I hear more. It's an especially good car for the conversion because of the 2 trunks, also relatively light weight and extremely low aerodynamic drag.

I like the line "the MIIN-AERĀ® car can be fueled with home air compressors capable of 4,500 psi"

Sure, no problem. Home Depot sells those, right?

It sounds like a good idea. Big drawback though with a range of 50 miles, maybe they could make it into a hybrid with either an electric motor or a low consumption gas powered engine.

How about placing same system on a very light platform {Ariel Atom or Similar} hence increasing Range and Performance.
