Audi S3 Gets S-tronic Transmission

The Audi S3 is about to get a welcomed change in the transmission department thanks to the offering by Audi UK of the new 7 speed S tronic in the stealthy five-door Audi S3. Enthusiasts in the United States would just love if AudiUSA offered an Audi S3 here, but unfortunately its not in the cards for us right now. Until it is, we can drool over these photos.

It will not come because NOBODY will buy it. Who would buy an S3 when you have the 135i beast available for 36K? I mean, a run of the mill Audi A3 3.2 starts at 36.9K(shakes head in disbelief)here. Are they out of their mind? I'd say Audi is definitely smoking crack.

You have to admire Audi to some degree. They've defied the odds, and have been able to make a profit off of a product that costs more than the competition, but in some way offers less. What the S3 and/or A3 lack in performance, they more than make up for in appearance and capability when compared to the 135i.

well sharing components with dozens of other vw group vehicles i think has something to do with the profit....though in american the A3's sales are pitiful....the 1 series is based on the 3 series......which honestly I would say puts it a class above the 15,000 rabbit based A3

The S3 and 135i are in totally different markets. Somebody who wants a 270hp, four-cylinder AWD hatchback is not looking for a 300hp RWD coupe/convert.

Not to mention... the S3 isn't much slower than the 135, but it gets WAY better mileage.

Audi/VW doesn't have a transverse 7-speed DSG that can handle the torque of the S3 so I'm calling BS about the transmission.
