It's A Fact: Everyone Is Now Driving Less, How About You?

Travel on all roads fell 3.6 percent or nearly 10 billion vehicle miles compared with the same period last year, according to the latest figures provided by the Transportation Department.

The decline was less than the drop of 5 percent, or 12.2 billion miles, reported by the agency for June.

Average gasoline prices at the end of September are nearly 50 cents lower at $3.63 per gallon compared with July, according to figures released on Monday by the Energy Department.

Unfortunately, since my job relocated in August, my commute has gone from 5 miles to 25 miles each way. It's funny though, timewise my commute only went up 10 minutes...just one of the few perks of moving away from Houston.

I've also started going to school part time, adding about 12 miles a week, and playing club hockey, adding up to 100 miles a week...my poor S4!

I live less than 2 miles to work, which is awesome. I have a wonderful opportunity to walk or ride a bike (which I think everyone should IF it works out)...but unfortunately, I can't. The logistics to get my kids to school and daycare and then to work, and picking them up after work just doesn't work :( I've tried and anyone who has kids with after school activities will tell you the same.

I applaud those who bike, walk...etc.!!!

I'm 3 miles from my jobsite, and it's located in backwoods so I'm not having to dodge any traffic. I can make a tank of fuel in my Camry last 3 weeks with my work commute and regular details. I thought about using a bike, but the drivers around here don't pay any attention. I'd more than likely end up as accidental roadkill by some idiot that will feel sorry for themselves until charges are dropped.

Nope. I just took a road trip from Nashville to Madison, WI and am about to go to State College, PA. It's nice to be young, have fun, and have money to burn. Economy and gas, suck my ass!

I am driving waaay more because the roads are less congested with "Wal-Mart Shoppers" and now you can enjoy some of the beautiful roads around So-Cal,especially highway 1.

I have to drive 20 miles each way to work daily. No bus system gets me there, and it's too far to ride a bike, and in this town, too dangerous as well.
