Motor Trend calls BMW X6 'pointless' then makes it 2009 SUV of the Year Contender
Just a couple months ago (5 months to be exact), Motor Trend called the 2009 BMW X6 “pointless.” Well it seems like they had a change of heart and have made the X6 a contender for their 2009 SUV of the Year award.

Back in May, Motor Trend “wondered whether deep down the BMW engineers, car guys all, thought the X6 a waste of their talent.” The magazine wrote: ”You see, good as it is, the X6 is still a truck. A perfectly...

Being a contender for the 2009 SUV (SAV, SAC) of the Year has nothing to do with what the think of this vehicle. It is a condenter because it is all new for 2009 and they review all new SUV's that come out during the time for which it would be a contender.

Any new SUV that as entered the maket within the past year automatically becomes a contender for SUV of the year. Every SUV or car has a fare shot, regardless of what has been said in previous articles. Now if they made if SUV of the year, I could see the issue.

i will admit too that i called the X6 pointless as well, but i've saw a X6 just a couple days ago for the first time in person and my goodness the car had alot of "presence". it looked very muscular from the back angles and the rims on the X6 made it really standout from the whole traffic. Black with tints and didnt see dealer plates on it so assuming it was bought/leased. definitely a nice car but it must of been really expensive

Just because you enter a beauty contest doesn't mean you're beautiful.

X6 should win the SOP award -> Sack of Poodoo

And EVERY LEXUS should win "The Best Replica of a Toyota Award" ....

or the UAH award.... "UGLY AS HELL"

Lexus doesn't replicate Toyota, it IS Toyota. They say Lexus on the top and Toyota on the bottom (and under the hood and every other nook and cranny). change the colors, add chrome, add white noise generator and Voila! a Toyota becomes a Lexus.

gettin' with the X6 would be like going out with a real ugly broad shouldered ex soviet power lifter with harry arms, big boobs and large nostrils... she may possess a lot of "oomph" and may rock you world, but the proposition itself is a bit revolting.

And to StarSearch:

15 different Toyota models can now be had for ZERO PERCENT INTEREST....

YOU ARE LYING ABOUT THE X6 TOO..

X6 is Wait Listed at every dealership..

You are as big a nut job as auto001....

You guys can't stand the fact that BMW is the most decorated and honored car maker in the world, and has the most loyal fan base.

Star, have some respect, StarSearch is speaking from experience... not like you who only have a stickered up scooter(non-motorized version) with sport seats, and metallic paint, to be used for your paper route.

Own my 08 BMW 335i coupe and never touched a paper route like you girls.

Must be hard for your girls holding down two jobs: 1) Hostess at McDonalds and 2) p/t cashier at Wal-Mart.

Gotta pay for those expensive used toyota yaris' though somehow don't you girls.

of course it is pointless, if you have to haul 6 people around, but then you wouldnt buy this vehicle, you would most likely get an escalade EXT.
The alpha male who might have one child sees this as the eprfect SUV and excuse to get something that handles well and can haul their 1 childs sports gear in the rear hatch.
i love the X6. I have driven both engines and the vehicles handles so well. for me, it is not pointless because i have no kids, make decent money and i am single.
its all relative if you feel it is pointless or not. figure out the target market first before you decide whether a vehicle is pointless or not.

a 5000+lb vehicle to haul a single ass around? haha this fits BMW 's philosophy perfectly... offensively excessive vehicles for completely useless people :)

Go try and buy one of those X6's in Boston StarSearch..

Let me know if you can walk out of the dealership paying sticker price.. I bet you can't even get one at $10,000 over sticker price.. But then again there probably are none there to be had, because I have a very strong feeling you are lying.

StarSearch, why don't you give us the name of the dealership in Boston so we can call and verify your claim..

Checked the dealership online and they have 3 not 7 and if they did have 7 X6's 4 days ago that means that they sold 4 in 4 days..

I would hardly call the X6 a failure by that measure.

Star, so in a matter of minutes you searched 50 dealerships around Boston? wow, you must have a quantum computer.

auto001,

You need a Quantum Computer because you must not be able to read.

StarSearch stated in one of his previous comments on this thread that he was at the dealership in Norwood, MA...

All you know how to do is make false smart ass remarks, so it should come as no suprise that you must be stupid too.

Thank god someone else posted here before I got the first say. LAME!

MT as stated puts any car that is new within the year in the competition. Not updates or refresh, but NEW. Hence it is in the competition.

God I would hate to see what you would have said had they not included it at all!

it's hardly pointless. i love it. i've had mine for nearly 2 months. it drives very well and has enough room to carry a few friends or my dog or some crap i bought at the store. my only complaint is the 14MPG i get, but i didn't expect it to be a gas sipper.

You realize you kind of made the argument that it IS pointless, right? Not much room, 14 mpg.

it's only "pointless" to someone who must have high mpg and a shit-ton of room. the idea of "pointlessness" regarding a vehicle is completely subjective.

No, I think you should buy whatever you want, obviously. It just seems that if you don't need much room, why not buy something smaller that performs as well or better and with better gas mileage?

I realize this is considered a niche vehicle, it's just hard for some of us to understand why you'd spend so much more, when you could get the same space, along with better performance and mileage AT THE BMW DEALER.

Because some people care a lot more about image, and having the latest "cool" car, than having something that actually fits their needs. This is one of them.

to me the x6 is pointless;

an suv/sav that can't carry much

a sports vehicle that sits too high

i just don't understand what it is supposed to be. i know it will sell because bmw has a hold on a lot of people. i drive an '08 650 so i do fit into that category but i'm not changing my view on the x6, it's ugly and pointless.

I would be the first to say that Audi didn't do a good job on the Q7's interior. It's average, nothing more. The X5/X6 use better materials on the inside. The Cayenne is much worse than the Q7.
