BMW Deliveries up 1.7% to 1.11 million automobiles for the year to end of September.
Munich. The BMW Group was able to increase its sales volume for the year to the end of September 2008 by 1.7% compared to the previous year. Global deliveries reached a total of 1,113,972 automobiles (prev.yr. 1,094,849). The BMW brand accounted for 928,230 of the vehicles delivered (prev.yr.: 929,379 / -0.1%), while 184,915 were MINI brand vehicles (prev.yr.: 164,891 / +12.1%). From January to September of this year, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars delivered 827 vehicles to customers, thereby achieving a gain of 42.8% (prev.yr.: 579).

In Western Europe BMW Group sales also declined in September as a result of the economic downturn (74,231 units / -16.9%). Nevertheless, with 637,018 units sold, absolute sales figures to the end of September are 2.1% higher than those for the same period last year (624,080 units).

“The situation remains challenging: The recent escalation in the financial crisis is also affecting consumer confidence in the premium-segment,” according to Ian Robertson, Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG responsible for Sales and Marketing. “However, we do expect the current weakness in demand to pass over time. With many new highly-efficient models being launched in the next months, we are well equipped for the future.”

Numerous premieres in Paris
At the current Paris Motor Show, the BMW Group is presenting a range of new models and technologies which will help drive growth over the next years: The new BMW 7 Series, the revised BMW 3 Series Sedan and Touring models, the BMW Concept X1 and the MINI Crossover Concept. A concept study of the BMW 7 Series, with an integrated electric engine as an auxiliary drive, is also being showcased: the BMW 7 Series ActiveHybrid. The BMW Group’s first series-produced hybrid vehicle, the BMW X6 ActiveHybrid, will be launched on the market next year.

The extensively revised new models will boost growth over the next few months. The same applies to the new BMW 7 Series, which will be delivered to customers starting 15 November.

Just a correction: Worldwide Sales for Audi in September of 08 compared to September of 07 were UP 12.3% to 97,000 vehicles. BMW was down 14.6% for the month. Not yearly totals.

No they are not all doing very well.
No more creative accounting, please.
The only ones that have to this date registered improved sales for the month of September and globally as compared to last year are Audi and Subaru.
Everybody else is bleeding, yes, BMW too.

Do not compare the target market of BMW (Audi/MB/Lexus) to the Mini targeted market.

The increase you refer to is due to increase sales of the Mini, if you tabulate BMW sales ONLY, BMW sales are down.

BMW created, designs and engineers the current mini and RR, why would they not include them in sales figures? Mercedes includes Smart in its sales figures, its the same deal.

Who ever can afford a RR (and a couple of BMW/Audi/Lexus), purchase choices have not changed.
Who ever has no choice but to purchase a Mini or a Smart, can still afford it. Using RR, Mini, or Smart sales is not “the same deal”, is creative accounting; they are not the same customer or target market. The BMW target customer is different and the decrease in sales reflect that.

your ridiculous you make no sense.
A Mini is a BMW its part of the BMW brand so its sales are included. Its just a way to sell down market with out damaging the brand image, they have the SAME BANK ACCOUNT, its designed by the same people. The same thing with Smart and MB, Its called a Smart, diversified portfolio. BMW could easily put BMW badges on the minis it would make no diff, they just have certain standards.

My argument is not about making money or selling Mini’s, is about the sale of BMW vehicles.
FLAT = FACTS = 0 = 929 vehicles less.
No, sales have not decreased. (Sarcasm)

BMW fanboys do not cry, almost 1,000 vehicles less is not much but please do not claim that BMW is not bleeding when factories are shifted to USA production, car sales are down, cars are routed for sale to China and Russia, and factory workers are laid off.
Relax, Audi is doing much the same and their vehicle sales up.

If you want to pointlessly dissect it, yes sales are down for sept, but BMW is in a period where they are phasing out old models, and soon introducing new models, and on top of it the economy is down the tubes. And yes Audi is up for the month, but as mclaren248 stated they just introduced there new bread and butter sedan, and the result is a sales spike for the month, but that will wane in in time.

But if you want to look at the BIG picture, the one that is important. The BMW group is up 1.7% for the year and delivered over 1.1 million vehicles in the first nine months of the year.

I don't think so. The new A4 just came out in the US but has been out in Europe and Asia since the beginning of the year. They may not see massive increases without a big new model launch next year, but they won't see any decreases, either. The refreshed A6 will pick up sales even more in China.

Guys, the production of 7er, 3er sedan & touring, and Z4 has been stopped.

Facelifted 3er sedan & touring were launched in the end of September only, while new 7er & Z4 models are still waiting to be launched. So in September 2008 only existing inventories of 3er, 7er & Z4 were sold.

Not to mention in the end of September MY2009 with improved iDrive has been introduced in 1er, 5er & 6er. I'm sure people were also waiting for a new iDrive to arrive!
