Are Politicians Steering Us Towards Vehicular Communism?

Are Politicians Steering Us Towards Vehicular Communism?
When politicians in Washington look down from their offices, they apparently see only two things: politically correct consumers doing their civic duty by driving small cars and hybrid-electric vehicles that are helping America achieve energy independence and curb global warming; and they see people who need to be protected from themselves because they are driving big vehicles made by Detroit.

“It’s difficult for the auto industry to understand how unsympathetic members (of Congress) are from other parts of the country. People look at them like they’re the tobacco industry,” Michigan Congresswoman Candice Miller tells Newsweek magazine.

Clearly, now that Washington is loaning Detroit auto makers $25 billion to begin repenting their evil ways, legislators will try to turn the fuel-economy screws tighter so they can limit the number of unhealthy vehicle choices General Motors, Ford and Chrysler are able to sell weak-willed consumers.

"a high percentage of large SUV drivers buy them because they need them, not because they are compelled by some neurotic urge. They have large families. They live in the country, where the roads are not plowed in the winter."

I stopped reading and started laughing there.

"if I was in charge, everyone would drive an electric car and live in a energy independent house"

I don't see anybody with communist ideas like yours surviving too long. I would never allow some brainwashed idiots to tell me what I can drive and more important how to LIVE. There are a lot more important things to take care of other than...lol... pollution. The planet will be just fine, in spite of what the brainwashed "green" idiots are made to believe.

bimmerfan, why are you even on a car website? Obviously you think vehicles are the devil. Shouldn't you be on some green/hippie/tree hugger website spewing your nonsense?

"now every single person who gets educated on the subject joins the green movement"

I have news for you. That's what brainwashing is...getting "educated" on a subject. Congratulation... you are a zombie now!

No downsides? What about spending billions of dollars we don't have throwing the country farther in debt? Even if you're not talking about the U.S., the world is in an economical crisis. Now is not the time for greenists to pipe up. This will cause people to lose houses, cars, possessions, insurance, etc. That's the problem with you hippies/greenists, you fail to see the downsides to everything and the way they affect people. All you care about is a slightly better air quality and more trees. You've been educating yourself incorrectly if you believe any of the crap you've been reading.

Well, you should learn because that is what you are about to get in the US after Nov. 4th.

Obama has said some things that lead me to believe he will be a car Nazi. For example, he plans to throw money at people who will buy hybrids and then tax the daylights out of anyone who buys a car with anything larger than a four cylinder. Call me crazy, but that's like saying "you can only have the freedom to choose if you can afford it".

"100 years from now"

Worry about today, stop being a tool. People are dying of hunger right this moment and you worry about what your kids will think 100 years from now? Are you for real? What's wrong with you people? Are you not ashamed of yourself for being such hypocrites?

bimmerfan-
"you can stop an invading army, but you can't stop an idea whos time has come"

A lot of ideas are nonsense. Take Hitler's ideas, for example. Just because it's an idea doesn't mean we should change everything about our society to cater to the environmentalists, who make up about 5% or less of the population.

"by continuing to use toxic chemicals as food pesticides that destroy thousands of square miles of fertile soil in the world every year?"

I've never heard of this before, and I watch the news all the time. You think if this was actually happening, it would be a bigger deal. You need to educate yourself on economics. The U.S. is successful for one thing and one thing only: industry. Every successful nation in the world has one thing in common: industry. If the U.S. cannot meet the demand for products in a timely manner, it will hurt. It's arguable that the only reason the U.S. isn't in a depression is its exports. If the U.S. can't grow enough grains fast enough to export and sell to meet demand, the country will suffer. Seriously, if you knew anything at all, you'd realize that the Green Party are just a bunch of closed-minded, psycho paths, who don't care about anybody but their own interests.

My point is this: do you want to buy, say, a Honda Accord V6 for $25,000 and then pay thousands of dollars in taxes, just because it's a V6? I might be able to afford the car, not the taxes. Taxing people's vehicles for having an engine too large is stepping over the line. And giving people tax breaks because their cars have weak four cylinder hybrids (which, by the way, cannot climb the hills where I live). Yes, I realize there are hybrids that have decent horsepower, but their gas mileage isn't any better than that same car with a more powerful, non-hybrid engine.

Alright, what percent of the population do you think the green party covers? And I think you're the idiot. Obviously the 60s are long over. I wasn't even alive in the 60s. If you don't quit talking from your @$$, no one is going to believe a word you say.
