GT-R production halted!

Does this have anythign to do with the faulty tranny's?

The article speculates that since just JDM production is halted it may be due to supplier issues related to JDM only components. But at this point who knows.

A very real possibility. I know the demand should have been estimated to be high based upon the past GTR success, so I don't see how just JDM orders would be the only ones affected.

No your misunderstanding. There may be to many orders for the supplier to meet.

GTR is a car that's good on paper. When you try to put those numbers to practice the GTR breaks. I knew that the GTR was too good to be true.

a nissan will never be a ferrari who are you trying to kid??. the gtr has always been fast and if not fast stock it was sooped up to be fast. nothing has changed. they sooped it up and name it oem big deal. its still not a ferrari, its not even a porsche in class. it is in comparo in speed but thats as far as it goes. but speed isnt everything. porsche is super car maker. nissan is econobox company that makes an expensive car.

Porsche must have done something to halt production...oh wait they did...they bitched and complained and blamed nissan for cheating on their lap times.

Nissan stopped production because the regular production GT-Rs are falling apart(severe reliability problems) in the hands of their owners. The GT-R is nothing else but a SCAM.

The Nissan dealers are announcing that the halt is because of price hikes on parts. They are stopping to take new orders because they need to properly announce the price hike of the GTR before doing so. Seems that Nissan wasn't making too big of a profit from each GTR sold (more of like an brand imaging tool) and the price hike of parts would cut further into Nissan's profit making the halt unavoidable. I doubt Nissan will put cheap parts into the GTR's to cut production costs, so, if you've already ordered one, good for you. If you were waiting for the V-spec, I think you'll be paying lot for that muffler! (at least more than you originally expected) no big deal...

Whatever the reason may be i'm sure it's legitimate but also take in for account this may be a publicity stunt to get more attention on the GT-R. Production halted will give the buyers the notion of it being more valuable, hence raising the premium on these cars.

Yuni96: Of course cheap parts is all subjective but from my point of view I think the plastic bits in the car is comparable to the cheap feeling bits from the current 350z. At the price their charging they could easily fit them with higher quality that match Lexus-grade plastics.

This is solely based from my experience with the GT-R.

Agent 63 : I meant cheap compared to the parts already in the current GTR. For example, cutting back on the light weight parts(aluminum, carbon fiber) would make the GTR cheaper to build. But I don't think Nissan would do that.

Regarding the plastic "cheap parts" in the car, I do disagree with you, but maybe that's just because I'm Japanese. But the way I see it, it's all up to your taste. Where would you want to put your money into a car? More money usually means more quality. But there can be many qualities to a car. The "quality in performance" or "quality in luxury" of a car, or if you have the dinero, quality in both. If Nissan were to have Lexus-grade plastics, they would have to down grade the tech under the hood to keep the same price.
I'm sure if you're willing to buy a GTR with a 350Z engine in it, they would happily upgrade the upholstery to your liking. If you want a car that is more visually asthetic for the same price as a GTR, it's going to be a slower car. The logic is simple.

Of course. That makes perfect sense. Nissan would have to sacrifice performance to better quality interior plastics and for a car like that I would much rather have the performance since it's a purpose built car. It's meant to go fast not meant to please those who seek luxury. Want luxury-premium get the Porsche with similar performance but if you want the cool gadgets, the screen interface that resembles a game, and a car that goes just as fast if not faster then the GT-R is the perfect car, not to mention the bang for buck value.

That is why I will be putting a downpayment on a Spec V when it is available. My Porsche 997TT is by far more exotic, more premium as Agent said and is of course very fast in today's standard. I don't look for premium features or Porsche-type quality in a constructive aspect but I just want to go fast, as I would in the Porsche but at the same time know that if anything were to happen it wouldn't cost me another limb to replace. The GT-R is great value and I think my friends who own an R8, Ford GT, and Gallardo will enjoy it as well. Although the Nissan can't come close in the spirit of how a super car is in Europe it is exceptionally well in what it does, excitement!. My wife will even enjoy it because it's a lot easier to drive ala the dual-clutch set up since she can't drive manual (and I refuse to buy an automatic Porsche).
