Nissan Motor Co is recalling 204,361 Nissan and Infiniti cars and sport utility vehicles in the US to repair an electrical flaw that may prevent the front-passenger air bag from deploying.
The voluntary recall affects 2007 and 2008 model-year Nissan Altima, 350Z and Infiniti G35 and G37 cars, and Nissan Murano, Rogue and Infiniti EX35 SUVs, according to a letter posted on the Web site of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
An electrical resistor in the seat cushion may fail to send a signal to the passenger air bag, preventing it from opening in an accident, according to the letter. Tokyo-based Nissan said it will replace the seat cushion where necessary and will start notifying owners and dealers Nov. 3.
There have been no accidents or injuries related to the recall, said Colin Price, a spokesman for Nissan at its U.S. headquarters in Franklin, Tennessee. The repair will come at no cost to customers, he said in an interview.
