Lexus confirms new compact car
Lexus is unlikely to launch a model positioned below the IS250 in the United States but that doesn’t mean it won’t develop a new entry-level car for other markets.

One possibility is Europe, where premium hatchbacks sell in substantial numbers.

What's wrong with using the new Corolla?

Don't you think most people by now already know that Toyota rebadges their Camry as an ES? They def. will know that the upcoming Lexus Hybrid is really just a fancier Prius, they don't care because they TRUST Toyota. And Toyota won't let them down, that's why they are # 1! Ok maybe # 2 :)

What is a "7-Series-Mini-Cooper"?.

I never knew that the BMW 7 series and the mini-cooper were identical vehicles only seperated by a badge. The Mini-Cooper and 7-series look exacly alike. How can I be so stupid?

VW's FWD vs. a tru RWD (hoping that they make an RWD compact)? Did u know that the last R32 is only as fast as a Camry V6, no actually it's slower than a Camry V6.

"VW's FWD vs. a tru RWD"

As opposed to a fake RWD?

"th elast R32 is only as fast as a Camry V6, no actually it's slower than a Camry V6."

Wrong, the Camry runs in the mid-6s but the R32 runs in the mid-5s. If you've ever heard an R32's exhaust note, you would be sold right then.

The new Prius will use "trickle down technology" for the new compact lexus car.

First of all, the ES350 isn't just a Camry with Lexus logo slapped on it. The platform is the same, but the exterior and interior are very different. I also have never seen a Camry with a panoramic glass roof or Mark Levingson sound system.

Second, Lexus has already announced a new entry level car based loosely on the prius called the HS250h. I'm assuming that's what this article is referring to.

The reason why I say it's based loosely on the Prius is because it is supposed to get 35-40mpg instead of the 55-60mpg the Prius gets. I can't imagine such a difference if the platform is exactly the same. Even if they use a larger engine, it shouldn't have such a dramatic effect. I think they'll gear the HS250h to be more sportier than the Prius and compete with the 1series and A3 like the article mentioned.

Honda does this in Canada with the Civic. It's called the CSX and is placed below the TSX, its a luxury econo car.

Figure that Toyota would use the Matrix as a basis for this hatch. Give it two options, the 2.4L 164hp, and the Rav 4 V6 engine as a performance model. Not to mention it already has a AWD system for it, so it would fit in the lineup nicely.

The Matrix would make a god-awful Lexus.

There was a rumor of this about three years ago. It was for Europe and was to be call (I kid you not) the Lexus BS.

The A4 is not the Passat. I don't know why people still believe this.

The A3 is based on the MKV platform yeah, so is the TT (although it's constructed 2/3 of aluminum so I consider it "loosely" based on the Golf).

The A4, A5 A6, A8, Q5 and R8 do not have any Volkswagen counterparts. The Q7 is based on the Touareg/Cayenne but its platform is stretched ten inches vs. the other two.

S4:

Just like your example AUDI does the same as Lexus/Acura does vehicles are made on the same platforms some modified/counterparts ect. The fact these other makes are not any more special or worse than Lexus.

Just because they slapped on differently body panels on the vehicle (cause it's made of aluminum) you called it "LOOSELY" all makes does this even lexus/acura doesn't have the same body panels as honda/toyota.

jspec - you have no clue of engineering. The TT isn't just some new body panels 'slapped on' - it's got an aluminium core, it's completely re-engineered.

Do people on here have a clue what they are reading, everyone on here speak of engineering and what not... but some of you can't read, case in point.

Rupert: If you read my post I didn't mention the TT now did I. So I guess you're going to tell me the A3 is "LOSELY" based on the Golf as well since it doesn't share any body panels w/ the Golf right...

Don't get me wrong I think Audi's are nice cars some models, not too much of a big fan of the A3, Q7, TT but that's my opion, and i'm not saying that Lexus's are the best cars, the only model I like are the GS. But seriously some of you people on here get butt hurt when someone mentions something negative in regards to Mercedes, BMW, and Audi.

You forgot to add Lexus to that sentence. The same applies to Lexus fans (that are here) as well. Agree?
