More details for Acura's new X6 rival

Acura confirmed recently a number of plans to expand its lineup with several all-new models in an attempt to compete with more established tier 1 luxury brands such as its German rivals, which currently offer full range lineups.

The upmarket Honda label is limited to a handful of sedans and a pair of SUVs but the next couple of years will be very busy as the company prepares for the launch of a new coupe, a supercar, and according to these spy shots a new crossover as well.

this car looks as if it will compete with the X6 if you look closely at the front passenger door in the pic....it looks as if it is sloping down as they way the X6 is designed. Well acura was my favorite in the mid 90's with that legend and legend coupe I am a bimmer fan but you can say what you want that acura legend coupe was selling way better than the any bimmer from 94-96 except for maybe the 3 series. Acura always had the engine to beat they always had a 6 cylinder sports engine in their cars even the NSX. That had about a 300hp V6 back in the 90's so Acura get a Bigup for that

What? You seriously don't believe the Legend Coupe sold better than any Bimmer from that time, do you? Where are the numbers to back up that wild assertion? I liked the Legend too, but damn, let's be real.

The Acura Legen was the #1 selling luxury car between 91 and 95 i believe look it up. Back then you wasn't hearing anything about the LS, shit the Legend had reclining rear seats before Maybach first to have a GPS systems. Look it up it's all there. They wer just to advanced for their time but Acura seems like they are ready to return to their glory days like it or not. Maybe the penny saving like you guys call it is paying off because it seems like they are the onje's making the biggest push in these tough economic times.

Acura seriously needs a new design team. Their cars, as of late, have been hideous. The new "BEAK" has got to be one of the ugliest front grills I have ever seen in my lifetime.

So they are bringing back the RSX with a new coupe, the NSX is taking forever to make and will hardly sell the low numbers they plan as it is taking too long to get to showrooms.

And then you have this thing, lol.

I was an Acura fan till their designers went haywire and created such an ugly design on the new models.

As for competing against BMW. Believe it or not when I sold Acura's we were trained and told to compare them to BMW, Audi, M/B, Infiniti, Lexus. I always felt Acura was more comparable to the likes of Lincoln or Buick. They were by no means competing with BMW. We never took BMW's or Mercedes in trade. More so a Lexus ES or Infiniti G35 here and there.

The rest of the pull in's were people with older cars of SUVs from Ford, Mazda, Chevy, Hyundai, etc. and they were just looking to move up a little bit.

The best was when people cross shopped us with Honda's. I spent forever trying to convince one guy that the Pilot was the same as the MDX but he wasn't getting it. They would come in, see the TL and say my 03 Accord EX-L has all this just not as much hp. Then they would go down the street and get a new Accord. LOL.

Unless you needed HIDs, a sportier suspension and some extra HP, there is no difference between an Acura and a Honda, literally.

And how is that any different than the other Japanese Luxury Makes?

I have to say that Lexus does differ quite a bit more from Toyota than Acura does from Honda. In a Honda Accord, you could get just about all the gizmos that you could in a high-end Acura sedan. You can't get a lot of Lexus luxury features in Toyota sedans. SUVs are different--Lexus and Toyota SUVs are quite similar.

I don't think Acura could ever get to the level "luxury wise" as Audi and BMW. Truth be told is that their beak lookin design gots to go.

Acura is not about to make the jump the the Germans. Infiniti is knocking on the door and Lexus is making itself a mark on them as well. But they would have to compete against the other Jap brands first.

This POS will never compete against the X6. MAYBE against a Lexus RX or the station wagon based R-class, but that is about it. Anyone ever compare a Honda Pilot to an X5? Now you know what I mean.

I drove the 06bmw x5 and the 06 Pilot,i picked the Pilot over the x5.The honda powertrain felt more powerfull, ride was stable compare the bm rode gigily, unstable, the bm brake was very sloppy, took forever to stop. The Pilot was just a better package.Well,i'm not dissing Bmw ,i,actually own a 04 Bmw 3 for 4 for years,i like bms more that Mercedes.Acura makes great cars but luxury no,Bmw interior design is way ahead of Acura. The Mdx beat out The X5 in reliability, handle and perfomance but luxury no.Go for a test drive, a lot of you would stop bashing Acura because mechanically they are extremely advanced.Honda powertrain are different than Acura.Example.Mdx 3.7 Pilot 3.5.Rdx 2.3 turbo.Crv 2.4 non turbo etc but Lexus trucks and cars share the same powertrain with toyota

Acura must really, really hate BMW. They became to rival BMW. They build the TL to compete against the 3-Series. They build the RL to compete against the 5-Series. They build the MDX to compete against the X5. They build the RDX to compete against the X3. Now they will build a new crossover to compete against the X6.
