SOUND OFF: What Are You Paying For Gas And How Far Will Gas Prices Drop?

Gas prices are in a free fall if you haven''t noticed.  On the way in this morning to I saw the local station dropping the price of regular to $2.39 a gallon.  In fact is is very common to see it drop over night and again in the afternoon as well.

Great new for most of us because we are finally feeling a bit of freedom at the pump, at least in Texas. 

Now oil prices have been dropping at a rapid rate and the hurricane ravaged refineries in the gulf coast region are finally coming back online, setting the stage for further price reductions.  But how low will it go, and are you finally feeling it drop in your area?

Tell us what you are currently paying for regular and make your prediction on how low it may go before it finally hits bottom.

I just paid $3.19 for BP Regular in a Suburb of Chicago. In Chicago, by my work it's $3.79 at a Shell. I'm hoping to see it hit $2.49 for regular.

I was in Gurnee, IL today (another suburb of Chicago) and I was shocked to see $2.81. I havent really noticed the drop in gas prices because today was the first time in weeks I drove my car. I use public transportation because I live in the city of Chicago but d*mn what a shock when I got behind the wheel!

The other question is if crude is selling for 50% off the high, why isn't gas 50% less than the high?

crude is lower but then it goes thru process of becoming gas. so thaat made be why. plus it take time for the cost saving to reach the consumer. I don't think it's like instant.

Now that it's about $68 per barrel, does anybody know what gas prices were like the last time crude oil was at its current level? Somehow, mid-$3 range in Calfironia still sounds high.

$2.02 in South Texas. Closed on the market today at $1.57 per gallon. Add in local and federal taxes and it should be in below $2.00.

If the Dow continues to drop and remains down for a couple more days, gas prices may fall as low as $1.50/gal (reg) by next week in Ohio.

...which to say it's a great time to get gas, but says that other aspect of the economy are in financial trouble. The Christmas shopping season will be really interesting this year.

Both have dropped roughly 50% recently. It is just tough to see it the pump due to companies not lower gas prices as soon as a drop occurs.

I just filled up for $2.61, Dearborn, MI. It feels good filling up the tank for $42 as compared to close to $70 a few months ago.
