Pontiac To Kill All Excitement? G8 to be Dropped Leaving Zero RWD Platforms

This is depressing, especially since Pontiac was finally starting to turn things around with sporty products like the Solstice and G8. Going back to FWD will again make Pontiac indistinguishable from the other GM brands.

Perhaps they will go back to all that plastic body cladding to give the impression of "driving excitement."

WTF GM can not for the life of them stay the coarse on anything not bigger than a truck. Stupinpidity.

they should just go ahead and kill pontiac, there is no point in having a whole division of rebadges, with nothing truely unique to the brand. The G6 wont be updated anytime soon, the rest of the lineup is a "slightly" restyled chevy just cut the brand out all together

Or MINI, because 100% of the MINI products sold are FWD.

Wow, their best car in years and they are killing it. Good job lamo's! The Solstice was a fun little roadster and the G8 was a hot looking car. The G6 is not horrible but needs some updating. And the G5 is horrid.

If they wanna have driving excitement why not add options to these cars, make them more performance oriented. Take the G5 and give it the Cobalt SS treatment with some balls. A G5 GXP.

So what is to become of the G8 GXP we heard so much about. That was gonna be a crazy car. GM makes a Pontiac that competes performance wise with a BMW 5-series and then kills it, great move, with gas prices below $3 a gallon you would think they would work on more projects like this.

Guess if you want anything good from GM you should go to Australia.

I always thought that everything but the Solstice, G6, and G8 should have been dropped from the new Pontiac line. Only thing that would have been missing was the G8 in coupe and convertible form (like G6) and the Pontiac line would have been fine.

With this news, they might as well left the Grand Prix alone in the first place...

If GM was more performance oriented around 10 years ago this would have not been a problem.

Thats unfortunate. They were going in the right direction. It's too bad American auto keeps taking steps backwards.

Well for Pontiacs sake, I sure these edmunds "sources" are wrong. It is depressing news for sure. But until GM releases their own official word on this, I'll hold out hope that this is not the case.

Hopfully this is just speculation however if its not...

I don't recommend that you hold your breath waiting for a new Firebird...The reason why the "New" GTO died (apart from the fact that its "Target Market" thought it was GROSSLY OVERPRICED)
Was that GM's "After the Fact" market surveys showed that People wanted 4doors.

It isn't the G8 that needs to be dropped, it is GM management(if you can call them that). WTF are they thinking?

I am deeply sadden by your multiple postings and I can not fathom that anybody could keep posting such blatantly ignorant comments.
I can see only a few possibilities to such postings;
1- you are between the age of 12 and 16 years old and you know absolutely nothing about cars.
2- you are playing the devil advocate and purposely post the most radical comments you can come up with in order to create flame wars and outrage.
3- you really believe in BMW superiority and in this case I am really sorry for you, because such ignorance and arrogance are beyond any comprehension.
4- you might suffer from some brain damage or genetic disorder and therefore I am, and we all will be sorry for you and forgive your constantly ridiculous comments.

I do respect BMW as a brand and as a product, they do seem to have lost their edge and it is clear that "accounting" and "marketing" have a lot to say in how the product is being built.
Life is about making the right compromises, and if you are knowledgeable, educated and with the means, which vehicle is going to fit those compromises is for each their own. But to pompously push your favorite brand like you do is a little to much for this site sometimes.

If it is a game to you, there is something disturbing to how you envision your social interaction with other through the internet.
Maybe therapy is something you might consider.

If you have half of an understanding of what you are doing when you post a comment and read the answers to it, you should have had your laugh a long time ago and give it a rest.
