Brit team build 1,000mph car

Land speed record attempts haven't drawn as much attention and innovation as they used to over the past decade. The current record, set in 1997 at 763mph (1,227km/h), is impressive, but it's stood for nearly 12 years without serious threat - until now, that is.

A team from Britain today launched the Bloodhound Project to spawn a new car that they think is capable of 1,050mph (1,690km/h) under a combination of rocket, jet and piston power.

British engineers have unveiled plans for the Bloodhound, a 1,000mph supersonic car that is designed to smash the current land speed record. The car, which could theoretically reach 1,050mph would be so fast, it could outrun a speeding bullet from a .357 Magnum revolver. British science institutions to inspire kids to pursue careers in science and engineering. A full-scale mock-up version of the vehicle is expected next month, while a week long exhibition on the project will be running at London's Science Museum in South Kensington.

they better have some kind of safett feature for the driver...cause God forbid this thing crashes, i dont think anything but dust would be left over.
