Nissan Says A 4 Door GT-R Is In Your Future, But Would You Buy It?

Nissan’s GT-R is growing, Auto Express can reveal. Sources in Japan have discovered that the hi-tech supercar will soon be available as a four-door – and it’s set to wear an Infiniti badge.

The flagship will rival the Porsche Panamera and BMW M5, and it uses the same four-wheel-drive chassis and twin-clutch gearbox as the GT-R coupé. However, it will have a longer wheelbase and place an emphasis on comfort and luxury rather than performance.

They pretty much have already applied this styling on a longer chassis...

It's called a Maxima.

Performance obviously will be much different but I really would expect to see something that looks a lot like the new Maxima as the Infiniti version.

No. Only the 2 door version interests me. it just bothers me sometimes how a 6speed isnt an option but the auto transmission does shift superbly fast so no real complaints here

Yes it's going to be awesome. Who says their flagship/halo car has to be a very larrrge 4 door sedan (7 series, S class, etc.) why cant it be similar to an M5 or Panarama as the article mentions?

A 4-door GT-R to replace the Q-series Infiniti? Hmmm. Sounds intriguing.

I hope they don't downgrade by too much the performance of the coupe in the sedan version. I also hope they get rid of the GT-Rs "boy racer" looks, and give it a nincer interior and a more comfortable, supple ride.

I don't think it will literally be a 4-door GT-R. It will be based on the platform but designed from that point up to be an Infiniti. That means will will probably not look at all like the GT-R and its chassis and power train will be tuned for a blend of luxury and performance.

It should have a very luxurious interior befitting a luxury flagship. Just don't expect it to be exactly the GT-R stretched to sedan proportions.

putting 4-doors on this car will only make it uglier.

mark my words, even the 2-door will look dated and like some science fiction leftover in 10 years. the design will never have the grace of italian sportscars that look good when they're decades old.

The question is, since Infiniti is no longer a US only brand, will this new car even make it to the US? Some would think that is a dumb question, but there are EX and FX 37's rolling around right now that may not see the US shores.

I think this car is being designed specifically with the North American market in mind. Infiniti is an infant in Europe and will have to establish itself there over time. You don't just plop a 60K+ flagship into the mix this early.

On the other hand, the U.S. market may be ready for such a car from Infiniti, especially all those M drivers who've had nowhere to go when the are ready to trade-up in the Infiniti lineup.

This would definitely be interesting, a real 7 series competitor. Remember, the Infiniti M has beaten the 5 in at least one comparison that I've read.

Well, the majority of us said this would be a good idea and it looks like Nissan listened. It won't be the next Q but it will definitely be flagship material.
