Oooh you know what though? Upon reflection, I think I'll just skip the minivan and go with a single vehicle instead -- a truck, just as you so brilliantly suggested. A Quad Cab Sliverado! Yes! It's a truck, so ostensibly it meets your threshold of self-flagellation, but it's got a backseat-- so I don't have to spend an extra $32,000 on a 'wagon' or a minivan!

(Alas... If only GM offered that Silverado truck with a seamless, color-matched hardshell option, and a little third-row seat neatly tucked inside; then I'd be truly golden!)

How many people have 4+ kids and boat(or whatever else you need to trailer) and need a front mounted snow plow here in the US?

I'm gonna say not many. So how would you justify spending Billions (with a B) on deveoping an entirly new range of vehicles when there would only be a few sold...especially in todays economy? That would be fiscally irresponsible.

So the handful of people would would use a Suburban in the manner for which it was created (and lets be honest most people who were buying it were your atypical soccermom with 2 to 3 kids and a golden retriver) GM will have to say sorry to while it tries to stay in existance.

In the mean time, keep your current SUV...I'm sure if you need another one in a few years, there will be plenty of 2010's for sale...dirt cheap. Meanwhile I will begin to enjoy actually being able to open my car door when parked in a public garage.

You nailed it when you stated that these are cars,lol The vehicles don't necessarily have to be smaller, they just have to be way more efficient. I believe it is possible to have both. I am not a fan of these cars anyways so nothing lost. I would be crying if it were more truck like with real off road abilities with better fuel mileage.

I really liked the current Tahoe. Nice looking, comfortable, great big car.

Guess your gonna see the demise of the full size SUV and companies putting more into Mini-vans and wagons again.

It's really too bad, the suburban has become a kind of iconic SUV for chevy and a minivan alternative for large families. I used to own a yukon denali and it was a great car, i'm going to miss these big gas gusslers

If GM can find a way to make large vehicles work on all fronts, then this wouldn't be an issue. The Suburban is a great looking vehicle I wouldn't mind owning if it wasn't so impractical when gas is concerned.

If you look back at the history of the Suburban, it doesn't have to be a giant vehicle.

I find it funny that people are still talking about gas prices and such on the news and in commercials and all when gas in my town has collapsed and is now $2.59 a gallon

This gasoline price deflation is simply the republicans trying to sway our vote back to them. Once the elections are over gas will go back up. Mark my words.

those vehicles have become somewhat of an icon. Im sad to see them go.

They can just be maintained as they are and ride out the economic sh*#!hole we're in now and be reinvented as a more fuel efficient and not as large SUV in the future. Whether we like it or not, full sized SUVs still have a market in the likes of bulletproof vehicles for embassies and VIPs around the world. Maybe cut down on the brand engineering and just maintain 1 brand model instead of 3 or 4 Chevrolet, GMC, Cadillac, etc.

I think that chev should keep these suvs and increase the power by two! How? Have an electric drive at each wheel and a gas generator to charge the batteries like pml's mini cooper. I would like to see an off road Baja version of this Tahoe with enough wheel travel to make off road racers envious. No company is smart enough to do this unfortunately. A vehicle like this would save this company if done right guaranteed! And on a final note chev has to understand the concept of a hybrid, It is to make a vehicle BETTER on fuel! was that so hard to come up with that chev?

this company is hurtin bad to kill their main source. these trucks are an american icon but I dont think they will kill these trucks because even with the gas prices the way they are I still see more SUV's on the road than cars.

It's sad to see these go, but if there's no market for these things, why build them?

Besides, even if they kill them off now, should the market for them ever return (Not sure how the hell that will happen with the predicted gas prices next summer) they could always bring it back like the Camaro.
