Just noticed the top middle pic (A7 4 door coupe) in the gallery looks very X6-ish in its design...anyone else see that?

Looks good and there's definitely some X6 in it. However I don't think the X6 was a design benchmark. Rather, what you see there is a typical roof profile for a coupe, similar to the CLS, X6, and CC; vehicles that aren't coupes by definition but are designed to give the same appearance.

I'd definitely say it takes after the Passat CC and not the X6. It'd make sense too considering the Audi/VW connection.

It wouldn't make a lot of sense, because the A7 won't be related to the CC, mechanically or otherwise.

The CLS, the X6, the CC, and now this Q7 rendering, have one thing in common. They all "swoop like a coupe", but they have four doors.

A great coupe is by its very nature not a practical car - cramped rear seat that is difficult to access because there are no rear doors, headroom limited by a sleek roofline, you get the idea - but they perform well, and they look good doing it. Audi, BMW, Mercedes, VW, etc. are trying to suggest that beauty and spirit walk hand in hand with practicality with these 4-door "coupes".

No doubt in my mind, cars like the R8 and S5 coupe are helping their image immensely...Audi is gaining momentum.

They outsell in Europe and the new supercharged engines coming are supposed to be awesome.

Honestly, a fastback design is not a strategy I'd choose to pursue. A rakish tumblehome roofline is perhaps sporty and nice, but this looks too much like a 5-door hatchback. This needs to be more of a traditional 3-box design.

Be careful Audi - you're treading on dangerous ground (though I know not many Americans bought the current A8 - so this point might be moot) because a 5-door look in the US will most certainly flop.

the 2nd and 3rd picture remind me of a dodge charger. I see where they are trying to go with the fastback low roof line look but I dont know if that would fit all AUDI's and their image. I think the A7 is going to be fire and probably will be a toucg competotor against the Benz CLS

the A5 Sportback is better looking than the previous pshops indicated. And it looks production ready in the sketch. The other Audis are drawn too conceptish to actually see how they end up.

for those of you that like to call audi a re-badged VW, haha lol...as of this week PORSCHE now has control of almost 75% of the entire company! so i guess an Audi is a re-badged porsche, oh yeah, the tt and the Q7 dont share any parts with Porsche already!

the TT doesn't share anything with Porsche.

The Touareg and the Cayenne are fairly similar, the Q7 shares about 15% parts wit the Cayenne. The Cayenne and Panamera use the VW VR6 engine.

Volkswagen rose 309.15 euros, or 147 percent, to 520 euros in Frankfurt trading yesterday. Porsche said it will increase its holding from 42.6 percent, prompting some short-sellers to buy from a shrinking pool of stock to end their bets. Volkswagen has more than tripled this year, giving it a market value of 145 billion euros ($181.9 billion), more than Nestle SA and BP Plc, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.

Porsche, the maker of the 911 sports car, has accumulated Volkswagen shares since 2005 to protect ties to its biggest supplier. Wolfsburg-based Volkswagen's gain came as all other stocks in Germany's benchmark DAX Index fell on investor concern that a slowdown in the global economy is accelerating.

the touareg, cayenne and Q7 are as similar as a buick, pontiac and chevy...same plant, same production line.. many same parts, all offer difft engines of course....

Cost
The destination charge is a standard charge for transporting the vehicle from its point of origin to the dealer. It costs about the same to get the Audi Q7 to the dealership as the Porsche Cayenne. There frankly isn't much of a difference in gas mileage here, but if you must know, the Audi Q7 is somewhat more economical than the Porsche Cayenne. The Audi Q7 isn't much costlier than the Porsche Cayenne as far as MSRP. Regarding final price, the Audi doesn't cost much less than the Porsche Cayenne.

Utility
The Audi Q7 is a better choice than the Cayenne regarding hauling capacity, especially if you frequently need to carry a lot of equipment or big animals. The Audi Q7 will definitely prove friendlier than the Porsche Cayenne for those of you with frequent kid-cargo. The Porsche outpulls the Audi Q7 by a massive margin.

Convenience
The Cayenne's fuel tank will need to be replenished slightly more often than the unit in the Audi.

While the front cabin in the Audi Q7 offers a bit more head room than the Porsche Cayenne, there really isn't much of a difference. While the rear of the Porsche Cayenne offers a bit more head- and leg-room than the Audi Q7, there frankly isn't much of a difference.

The Audi Q7 is a little more ponderous than the Porsche Cayenne. The Porsche and the Audi Q7 compete for the same parking spaces.

Performance
With that kind of horsepower, both the Audi Q7 and the Porsche Cayenne are full-blown speedsters.

Handling
The Audi Q7 and the Porsche have roughly comparable tires. With their similar turning circles, the Porsche and the Audi Q7 most definitely handle roughly the same into and out of tight spots.

Drivetrain
The Audi Q7's engine is slightly smaller than the Cayenne's, but not terribly so. Torque is the force that lets you accelerate quickly, and in this respect, the Audi Q7 isn't much more powerful than the Cayenne.

The second and third pictures look beautiful and very realistic, and I love the five-door-esque design. On the other hand it looks a lot like an A5 sedan with a Ford Mondeo roofline. Not necessarily a bad thing, but if it does end up looking like that it wouldn't have Audi's greenhouse theme.

Again, Lexus is not on top of the same Luxury chain. There are exclusive luxury sports cars and there are economic luxury only cars. Lexus has zero sport and sells for cheap (relatively), so by market rules, cheaper sells more, which does not mean more is better.

I do not think that Audi is taking much from MB other than maybe the fuel efficient diesel market because MB is more of a brute engine luxury only brand. BMW remains as the lone Audi competitor in the sport luxury market.

to me it looks like what the x6 should have been, a car not and suv/sav. still don't like it either way. mercedes did it best (although i hate to admit it being an audi fanatic).

The CLS is the nicest 4 door coupe out there, but it admittedly doesn't have a lot of competition, Have you seen the VW CC in person? It's gorgeous. Might not carry the cachet the CLS oozes, but damn it looks good.
