Ford rumored to sell Volvo to BMW

No, Volvo is a FWD POS unreliable crapbox as you would say.

simple reason...

BMW wants to stay true to its brand and continue making performance-oriented cars. however, it also MUST meet very stringent european fleetwide emissions/mileage in the next few years. volvo is a strong brand and BMW could apply its engineering talent to make practical, small engined cars across the volvo line.

and voila...BMW's corporate meets european emission/mileage requirements.

besides that, they'll be able to pick up volvo on the cheap. it's a brilliant time to make corporate acquisitions for those companies with strong balance sheets.

I cant emphasize enough how smart of a decision this would be for BMW, to pick up Volvo. Volvo is a name associated with safety and reliability, and BMW could turn Volvo into a very green brand with hybrids, and diesels, while keeping manufacturing costs down by using BMW and Mini engines and platforms. While BMW will have the task of making benchmark sporting sedans that are green, with Volvo the could just focus on quality family cars that are green. And im sure ford will sell Volvo for a relatively low price. If BMW wants to spend some capitol, it would be a great investment.

dilute the brand? huh? they're not merging the products, just the corporations. it's the perfect time to pick up a strong brand on the cheap, reinvent the product line and meet european corporate-wide emission and fuel economy standards.

is rolls-royce diluted because BMW owns it? NO.
is bentley diluted because VW owns it? NO.
is lamborghini diluted because VW owns it? NO.

i disagree this will not dilute the brand, that makes no sense, how does buying another company dilute the brand, that happens when you start adding tons of cheaper models, crappy models that dont fit the brand, or basing cars on lesser cars that shouldnt be in thefirst place. I might would have to disagree with the Bentley and Lamborghini and VW dilution though. it just doesnt work the otherway though Volvo is a few scales down from BMW

Yeah, I'd actually like to see this. BMW and Volvo are semi-competitors because they have a few vehicles at the same price points (XC90 and X5, XC60 and X3, S80 and 528i-535i), and it would be interesting to watch how BMW repositions the brand. I don't think Volvo should go back to RWD so that it can retain its safe, all-weather image. I just think that BMW should work the same magic it has worked with MINI. Maybe streamline the brand a bit, gussy up their designs (the XC60 is a great start) and make them the green semi-luxury brand of the lineup as a couple others said.

BMW has denied this rumor several times, but I still think Volvo would benefit greatly from BMW if this did happen and as a few of you have pointed out, it would help with emissions regulations fro BMW.
