It's too bad it's a front engine car otherwise it could compete with the 911 4. I think this will give the Cayman S a run for it's money tho. I take it this won't come stateside either right?

LOL it's not in the same market as a 911. It is more in the same market as a Cayman S I believe.

Porsche being they own the major stake in Volkwagen/ Audi , why would Porsche allow the TT to ever get close to the Cayman S in performance? This would be blasphemy.

The current TT 3.2 is a Cayman Competitor, so the TTS can certainly be a Cayman S competitor. How much trackable performance potential you are looking for, or demand, may be what determines your decision between the two. It's important to remember that not everyone buys a sports car based only on whether or not it turns the fastest lap times. What may cause one person to fall asleep behind the wheel may completely blow someone else away; it's all relative to expectation, use, and previous experiences. If you've never driven anything considered a "sports car", even a 2.0T FWD TT Roadster is pretty impressive. If, however, you own an SLK55 for example, that same car will likely do little for you.

I don't think the TTS will be 911 C4 competition, and I don't like to think of it as 911 C2 competition, but there's an interesting equation hidden in there. The Cayman S is an incredible car, and I'm convinced that if a different company - say BMW - had built the BMW Cayman S, it would be considered 911 C2 competition. So if TTS = Cayman S, and Cayman S = 911 C2, then TTS = 911 C2? By "=" I don't mean the cars are equal in every respect, just that they are competitive. In reality, I think the hierarchy would be 911 C2 > Cayman S > TTS, but there are some overlaps. Plus you easily can drive the TTS in the snow, a big plus in New England...

the 5 cylinder engine is great and has a better ballance then the V6's in most cases

5 cylinders also sound really good. Very throaty.

Luxcar32, 5-cylinder engines are historical to Audi as they used them in the 80s in their various performance cars.

I still don't see how you can compare this front-wheel drive car to that of the mid-engine Cayman S! The Cayman S will still be the superior car, especially with the LSD being offered next as an option.

Rawest, highest performance potential (bragging rights) is one reason of many that people choose to but a particular car, not the only reason, and not the most common one either. It's just the most common reason referenced on this site; understandable based on the nature of the people who frequent it and post here. And I say "highest performance potential" because only a tiny fraction of sports cars will ever see anything close to their full potential, nor are most owners capable of reaching it even given proper circumstances.

Not many Porsche owners know what LSD means (as related to cars), a few more will recognize that they have heard the term "Limited Slip Differential" before once you tell them, and the fewest number will actually know what it's good, or bad, for.

And you're absolutely right. With or without the LSD the Cayman S is the superior car...unless it's raining or snowing. Or unless you think the TT is "cuter" and the seats are more comfy. It depends what fires your rockets about the particular car...

I have seen a few of the Audi TT in person. Damn they are sexy looking cars.

Wow, sounds really impressive. Like the TT-S. I love their new small engine, light weight philosophy. It'll go from 0-60 in a little over four seconds and will get 23MPG average.

Um... sounds like this thing will compete with the R8 for half the price.

r8s are garbage. tt's a chick car and garbage as well. lexus will have a true sports car soon enough. it will take out any porsche , audi , and whatever is in its path. its all about power and speed. who cares about quality build. its not like consumers looking for speed cars anyways. speed is the new prestige better believe it.
