2010 Ford Fusion can go 47mph on electric power

If you’re crazy about owning an electric car than you’ll love what FoMoCo has to offer with its 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid and Mercury Milan Hybrid sedans when they enter production in Dec. and hit the markets in early 2009.

The two hybrid sedans are said to be the most technically advanced production vehicles FoMoCo has ever made. Besides the SmartGauge with EcoGuide feature that we saw yesterday, the 2010 Fusion Hybrid and the 2010 Milan Hybrid will be able to travel at a top speed of 47 mph on electric power alone. That’s twice as fast as the current Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner hybrid crossovers. The two sedans will be able to do 8 miles on battery power alone before the engine kicks in.

WOW that looks great!!! It is also good to know it beats the Camry in fuel economy! Maybe I should replace my 06 fusion with this but not to sure on the hybrid part.

You have no idea how dated this car is already! 47mph in electric mode? Pathetic! 47mpg, Not good! Check out PML's mini cooper with 640 bhp and four hours of battery time and 80mpg when the generator kicks in! There must be an agreement with the gov. and the auto companies so the auto companies are not allowed to produce anything too efficient. Gas = $$tax and big corporations run the world and the media, we just get the propaganda , inefficient cars and gas taxes.

I agree that Diesel will be the more likely trend. Electric cars going 47MPH will be dangerous on the interstate. Where is Ralf Nader when we need him.

You are right, electric cars doing 47mph would be dangerous! Not PML's electric car! There electric hybrid has 640bhp! People have to realize electric vehicles have more power than fossil fuels like it or not. When is someone going to produce something better?

This car is NOT limited to 47 MPH, that's the speed at which the gas engine kicks in. There has been several cars hand built similar to PML's Mini (most with less horsepower) but the problem is not big gas companies it's the cost of batteries. I saw one car on the local news that had long range and lots of power, but cost $125,000 to build! Ford could build one of these but they would be lucky if they sold 10 units.This car looks to be the current leader for a midsize vehicle that you can actually buy for less than the cost of a house.
