Nissan Announces Cost Cutting Versa To Claim Cheapest Car In America

Nissan Motor Co., seeking to boost U.S. sales during an industry slump, said it will offer the market's lowest-priced car and no-interest loans on its five best-selling models.

A version of the Versa small car will sell for $9,990 starting Nov. 18, Al Castignetti, general manager of U.S. Nissan- brand sales, said in an interview. Costs were reduced by using a smaller engine and having less standard equipment, he said.

``It's tough economic times, so we want consumers to know Nissan is doing something about it,'' Castignetti said. ``As far as we know, this is the lowest-priced product out there.''

bold move. A lower priced Versa, a redesigned Fit, a 5 door Yaris, new 4 cylinder engines on Highlanders and RAV4s. The Japanese will continue to gain market share with their ability to so quickly respond to changing market conditions. When is that Cruze coming out again?

I think it was pushed back to late 2010 or early 2011. I think the volt is 2010 as well.

tha gt-r was cost cutting too. the 370 looks to be better i hope tha cheap plastic nissan bits from the renault partsbins is gone.
