Reminds me of the X5. That wood trim (looks almost like granite) is pretty ugly.

Dark Granite wouldn't be bad. But they should have it a dark wood so it doesn't look so tacky. That's what i hate about some companies who want to make their car seem luxurious but put either fake or cheap looking woodgrain.
For example Infiniti, Lexus and Chrysler both have had their fare share of cheap looking wood.

hmmm, ventilated seats, the "black LCD" or whatever they're called gauges from the new 7-Series, and leather up the entire center console? Are we sure this is an X1/X3? I'm thinking it might be that new 5-Series based "Progressive Activity Sedan". There's an awful lot of bells and whistles in there for the low end models.

why am I being deboosted for saying the same thing someone else said later?
Look at the pictures of the interior. It shows ventilated seats. The LCD gauges from the new 7-Series. Heads up display. A night vision button. A fully leather lined center console.
That's a lot of equipment you can't get on a 1-Series or 3-Series. Is it really that much of a stretch to wonder whether these are photos of the X1/X3 interior, or whether they actually might be the interior of a higher model we haven't yet seen (like the PAS)?

But to me, this still looks pretty low-end. I don't know, it just looks so similar to the current X3 interior, so I think it is. I'm not impressed, especially not after seeing the new 7.

Alot nicer than the button-less interior of the 5-series. Clutter is one thing. Starkness is worse. This interior gets my nod

Very well could be the PAS..........if it is then the new F10 5er interior will be similar- either way it gives you a hint at what the next gen interiors will be looking like...

The pics belongs to a press release on the new iDrive. The photos seen above are a part of that press release kit. The remarks say "BMW iDrive test vehicle, based on BMW 5er Touring".
It's just an old test cockpit for iDrive 2.0, mounted into E61 5er Touring.

They need some interior tips from Audi...even some Mercedes tips would be useful in this case. How can that even be considered a luxury car?

Okay TimE,well seeing that this is NOT an E61 touring interior than the only other choice is this must be the new 5er touring ala F10(F11).....

you realize you can get granite trim on a Mercedes SL, right? If you're going to throw stones, don't live in a glass house.

Don't know how anyone could mistake this as a production interior. The awkward and ugly cup holders, lack of ashtray/power adapter, weird and over-sized doorhandles, and the plain sides of the doors I'd think would be giveaways that this is clearly just a prototype of some sort. And unless my eyes are tricking me, it looks like the center console has stitched leather. I don't think BMW plans to offer that option in a lower end model, especially when the current 3 doesn't even get it unless it's a M3.
However, it could be the overall design for whatever BMw plans next. Maybe, maybe not, but time will tell.

So much processing power in one small convenient package. You can't even tell it's there until the "magic feel" sends it all flying through the window on the first highspeed bend.

People you heard it hear first.
BMW has come up with a new version of iDrive. I got to try about a month ago and folks believe me when I tell you its AMAZING!!!! BMW has gone to a hard drive based navigation system which works much quicker than the DVD based version. It includes an 80 GB hard drive with 12 GB dedicated to music. You can rip music onto the hard drive then upload it onto a memory stick, giving you the ability to share music. It is as user friendly as a cell phone. I promise you the iDrive bashers of the past will become lovers after 5 minutes. In North America you can voice command in English, French, and Spanish. Really an unbelievable system. Go to your local BMW retailer and try it out.
