BMW CS Concept: CANCELED

BMW CS Concept: CANCELED
Last night, we got word that the one of the most awaited BMW cars, the CS Concept, has been canceled due to the financial crisis Europe and U.S is facing. In a press conference, BMW’s CEO, Mr Reithofer, confirmed that there will not be a series model of Concept CS”.
The CS has been rumored to be the next BMW flagship which might have replaced the discontinued 8 Series. The BMW CS Concept made its debut at the Shanghai Auto Show back in 2007 and it was one of the BMW’s most acclaimed concepts. Bimmer fans and car lovers were thrilled with the innovation and the plans BMW had for their new car.

The first rumors that the Concept will make into production surfaced in September 2007 and it was confirmed at that time by BMW’s CEO himself.

Obviously, the recent decline in sales and the financial crisis has everything with to do with BMW’s plans to nix the CS Concept, but as a BMW fan, I can only hope that sometimes in the future, the car will make its way into the production lines.

try to go buy one, then talk about how it's not sold out. When dealers are paying over sticker for BMW's executive demos, that tells you all you need to know about the demand for the X6.

I get what you're saying, by the way. Let's be frank - is BMW puposely keeping supply short? Absolutely. But that's just smart economics. On any niche vehicle like that the goal SHOULD be to produce one less car than there are people to buy them. Here's a parallel for you. Audi only sells a few hundred A5's and S5's per month in the U.S., and you can't get one because of it. Is that considered a sales failure? Hell no, all anyone talks about is how sold out it is. The X6 is no different.

psst ... news flash ... the US market was only slated to get 8000 units. thus they are right on track. Take the blinders off, and look, the sky is blue

StarSearch, then I don't know what your dealer's problem is. There's a yearlong wait list here in Cincinnati (they won't even sell the 2008 demo they have because they won't have a 2009 to replace it with), and I can show you the printouts from the national Manheim auctions where executive cars were purchased by BMW dealers for over MSRP. They're sold out. Perhaps your local dealer is asking ridiculous amounts over MSRP for theirs.

The global X6 sales as of September stands at 15,444 units.
So what is obvious to me is that someone in BMW is not forthright with their numbers.

THANK YOU JESUS......That car was BUT ugly In the front The rear fascia was fine....what BMW needs to rethink is How to get the 8 series back into the swing of things and that means the 8 series with 2 doors not 4. They have to Shut down the Benz CL that was the target for the 8 series in the 90's and that should be the target now for the 8 series. I think a modernized 8 series will give the CL a run for its money. and I am a huge fan of the CL that car has Never failed me in performance nor style. But I really think they need to re-think that 8 series model instead of that 4 door mess they made

BMW is smart for being up front and honest with its investors. If anyone thinks Porsche, MB, Audi or any other luxury brand won't suffer through this cycle then they are only fooling themselves. Investors usually reward companies that get the bad news out first.

Mark my words, its only going to get worse in the next 6 months!

BMW spent too much time messin with those X's. Now it's too late for them to build what they trully stand for. Shame on them.

Teknik, the majority of those 300 on Autotrader are dealer demos. The ones on eBay are demos or resellers trying to make a fortune reselling cars you can't get from your local dealers because they're sold out.

Look, I know you hate BMW, but give it a rest already. If you can't add anything of value to the conversation, you don't HAVE to speak. It's not required.

JRobUSCJRobUSC - 11/4/2008 6:49:33 PM

Teknik, even if I humor you and pretend the X6 isn't sold out, it certainly wouldn't be the only vehicle on the market. Just about EVERYTHING is down. But now that we're done pretending, the fact is it IS sold out, and the fact that BMW has been able to bring a $60-80k sports car SUV with very limited practicallity to market, and have it be sold out, says a lot about BMW. Ask Audi how Q7 sales are doing, or Mercedes ML63 sales. Or Porsche Cayenne GTS/Turbo sales, or Range Rover anything sales. They're all down. Meanwhile you can't just waltz into 99.99% of BMW dealers and get an X6. That's a victory, like it or not.

The X6 is selling very well in Europe, unfortunately and quite rightly in the current climate there is just no need for the CS - BMW does not need this "Brand Builder" for the moment.......

BMW is merely making market adjusts to consumer demand for their product.

I think many still believe 001 is a little BMW biased (perhaps)BUT honestly the dude likes other brands as well (Lexus....Porsche) so whatever happens to Munich there's always plenty of other brands NOT cutting back....(Porsche Panamera, Aston Rapide/One-77, Bentley GTC)

Too bad, I liked the CS concept. But remember, if a truely profitable company like Toyota delays a car like the LF-A, it is not a surprise for BMW to do the same with their cars.

VISOVISO - 11/4/2008 6:18:08 PM

And yet the R8 is sold out and the V10 version and targa are on the way. So, is it really a recession or just failure on BMW's part? The LF-A is another issue altogether as Lexus is pricing beyond its worth or appeal.

JRobUSCJRobUSC - 11/4/2008 6:58:23 PM

you realize BMW sells 2-3 times as many X6's per month as Audi does R8's, right? They sold more X6's last month than Audi did A3's, and roughly the same number of X6's found homes in the U.S. as did Audi A8's.

The R8 is awesome. It's sold out because it's worth it and Audi keeps production low. The A5/S5 (moreso S5) also are sold out because production is kept low. But they're still SOLD OUT. I think the "problem" here has less to do with the X6 itself than it does the ridiculous expectation that BMW was going to sell a million of them. They're selling every one they're building, that's more than just every other car on the market can claim right now, other than little tiny cars and cars that are built in small numbers. Like the R8. And the X6.

Teknik, you need to find a very short bridge and fall off of it. You sit here and run your mouth (fingers) with an absolute lack of proof to your statements. I am a sales rep for BMW and in Canada we are presold until February, as for the US I would think your economic state has something to do with the lack of sales for every company, not the products that they are releasing.

Dear Teknik;

I am going to re-post this to show you how completely ridiculous your posts are. If you recall BMW had an 8 series which was too powerful and too expensive for it's time. With the recent economic struggle in N. America, a HUGE market for a vehicle like the CS, it would be VERY STUPID to release a car like the CS and have the 8 series problem re-occur. So the "STUPID" people at BMW who you so hate so much, are making a very "SMART" decision.

As for the X6 and ebayers selling it online. People are trying to resell the cars to make money as the retailers are all sold out. The whole world wants this car. Thank you JROBUSC for the tip. In Canada all out until February, and just drove the X6 xDrive 50i and OMG!!! Imagine 45-65mph in a blink of an eye with an engine that roars like an M5. The car feels like its on rails when cornering, and DINAN is asking for volunteer's because they want to make it FASTER!!!! We're talking Porsche Turbo S fast, yet you think it's a flop. Art is very subjective, sometimes you get it, and love it and see the beauty in it; Other times you don't. YOU DON'T.

Grow Up.

Thank you BMWSLSMN, you are on the right page, but I don't have to tell you that. I work at a BMW dealership in the west and I can say that we are selling every X6 we can get our hands on!! I wish the rest of the vehicles we have would sell so well. Just to let you in on something haters, the X6 sells very well even in a depressed market!!

Would've loved to see the CS become the 8 series, and then BMW should've d.c.'d the 6 series since the big bangle rear end is now a thing of the past. It would've been awesome if the CS went into production with the 5 liter V10 in the M5.
