I am a Bimmerfan... but would I buy this? More than likely not because A. I don't even know what the hell this is or how it will be marketed and B. why not just buy a 5 series estate?

Oh maybe I just figured it out....maybe this is BMW's way of getting or creating a kind of large premium hatchback market. It is not long enough in the back to be an estate but it is not tall enough to be a huge carrier of passengers like a minivan. So maybe this is their version of like how Ford does a Mondeo hatch or how Opel does a hatch of the Insignia.

if I'm not mistaken, supposedly this will seat 6-7 people, which is something the 5-Series wagon can't do but an E-class wagon does. My guess it that's why they're coming out with it, it's a large capacity vehicle that doesn't look like a wagon (or minivan, a la R-class) and drives better than an SUV while getting better fuel economy. I'm curious whether they'll continue building the 5-Series wagon once this debuts, since the new 5-Series will be coming out around the same time. There wouldn't seem to be a lot of reason to have both, especially when they're built on the same architecture.

It looks like a hatchback sedan similar to the Saab 9000. That model sold pretty well when it came out in 1985 (just after high gas prices). It seems to be this new BMW is ideal for someone who wants the utility of an SUV, but the performance of a car, without the stigma of a 'station wagon'.

Teknik, I don't know where you get your facts and how you consider the BMW X6 a failiure. You saw someone post some numbers on a post and use it as your proof that the BMW X6 is a failiure. Then you complain that BMW doesn't put out the CS like it's going to be a vehicle your everyday Premium car driver will be able to afford. If you recall BMW had an 8 series which was too powerful and too expensive for it's time. With the recent economic struggle in N. America, a HUGE market for a vehicle like the CS, it would be VERY STUPID to release a car like the CS and have the 8 series problem re-occur. So the "STUPID" people at BMW who you so hate so much, are making a very "SMART" decision. Grow up.

As for the PAS that BMW is coming out with, we as well don't know too much about it. Here's what we know so far, it will be something similar to a 5 series touring, but with a little bit more size. From that picture I would think it might have a similar rear to the X6. My guess would be a much better looking Mercedes R-Class. Don't really think it's BMW's image, but they must know something we don't.

I'd like to see more of these Crossovers available in Diesel with Standard Transmissions and Rear Wheel Drive. All Wheel Drive tends to be thirsty.

Maybe its a trick? You never know. It could be a test mule for a new engine and chassis, but an off body.

I think the pictures shown here are ok just from camo. doesn't look like anything too radical, but honestly BMW needs to stop finding new niche vehicles like the X6, stop with the new SAVs, like the X1. If BMW does put the PAS into production, I believe it will be called the V5 (deboost me if I'm talking about the RFK, but I believe PAS is V5), then BMW is doing a disservice to itself.

If BMW sticks to its great cars, ie 3 series, 5 series, M-cars, then BMW will end up like Porsche and be one great automaker.

The X1 is good for europe, most of you in here are comming from the US, but us people from EU drives smaller cars, for us the X1 has the perfect size. Sometimes it seems to me that you only think that there are one country (USA).

BMW should also find other marktes than just the US, they should try to sell more cars in China, Russia and Asia and rely to the USA, we see the problem now.

what is this PAS? i don't get what they are trying to achieve. as for the X6, i'm always puzzled when i read it's 'sold out'..how many units are we talking about? did bmw keep production low to keep demand up? the X6 just does not make sense to me, it had very little storage and rear headroom, i just don't get it.
