why did they hire Bangle again?

STOP building off bangle's ideas and build off the success of classic BMW styling

Seriously, guys, anyone who thinks this is the new M3 needs to learn a thing or two about Photoshop.

Yep, this is Photoshop of course. Last I heard, the M3 was internally green-lit as a coupe, not a 4-door. So this 'shop is confusing.

According to inside sources, the M3 will sport a 400 bhp V8. Although this is less raw power than the hot new Audi RS4, its expected that the BMW will make up for power with a lighter curb weight. I suspect this new M3 will slightly edge out the Audi (which, although new many ways, is actually based on a 3 year old platform).

The new M3 will also have a massively increased sticker price. Early reports say somewhere between $70,000 & $80,000.

No, offense any BMW lover here but the new M3/M5 is super Ugly compare to the Audi RS4 and the new Lexus GS430.

The BMW that I think is really nice is the 6 serie coupe, now that a nice Beamer.

Even the New 3 series look way better than the M3/M5

Wow, could the 3-series be a more boring car. After the undue backlash from the awesome 5 and 6 series (and terrible pre-face lift 7) Beemer have become very conservative and ultimately very boring.

Give me the S4/RS4/C55 AMG anyday over this yawnfest.

BMW is very clever just changing bumper and lines and upgrading engines and make a new car from existing one.Like 3 Series ---> M3.

The Audi RS4 is the winner actually.

When you take into account all the comparisons made between the RS4 and the M3 this past year, the Audi clearly wins.

In fact, the Audi RS4 has won all the comparisons (save one) so far. This spans Europe's Top Gear to America’s Car & Driver. In fact, Top Gear rated the regular S4 as superior overall to the M3 (in that comparo, the S4 outran the M3 around the track due to the Audi's superior quattro and far more flexible V8).

And this is only the beginning. In the USA, both Road & Track and Car & Driver will be back with more detailed comparos between the RS4 and M3 later this year (and early next year). If the European results are any indication, the Audi will most certainly blow away the M3 once more.

That is, until the E90 M3 comes out next year. With an anticipated $80,000 price tag and a 400 bhp V8, expect the new M3 will give the 450 bhp Audi a run for its money. The new M3 will weigh much more than the current M3 due to the V8 and the heavier E90 chassis, but it'll still come in around 100 lbs less than the all-wheel drive Audi. So the race should be tight.

But for the time being, the Audi RS4 is clearly the winner according to the vast majority of respected industry sources, decisively blowing away the M3.

Correction:

The RS4 has 420 bhp, not 450 bhp.

I confused it with the old RS6 with its 450bhp twin turbo 4.2 V8 (which incidentally, also destroyed the old BMW M5 in most comparison tests).

The new RS6 will have a 550 bhp normally aspiring V10 FSI. But hey, that's another flame to throw at a later date:)

I for one like the looks of this car, and cannot believe all of the negitive comments. Whats the deal with you people? BMW's current line-up E60 and E90 are the best driving cars in their class. Even if you don't love their looks, which I do, you will love the drive.

...but using a tiny statistical sample such as your home town is simple-minded and naive.

Let’s talk actual statistics.

Audi is actually a blockbuster company internationally, turning in massive profits in most of its markets. Yes, the USA is a proportionately small market for Audi. But once again, America is not the world (Although Audi is focusing like a laser to get its American market share up to its international figures by 2010).

The facts about Audi sales are these:

- Audi sold more cars than either BMW or Merc in Europe during Q1.

- Also in 2005, the A4 has outsold the BMW 3 Series so far in Europe.

- And yes, the A4/S4 shows up just as frequently on street races as the BMW in the rest of the world.

- Audi is the fastest growing luxury car maker in the world, with a projected premium brand position of #1 or #2 by 2010, according to the most recent auto industry analysis.

Yes, no-one can deny BMW's dominance in sales right now. They deserve it (for the most part). They're a great brand.

But denying the fact of Audi's obvious stellar ascension into the top tier is blindly ignorant.

Audi routinely bests BMW and especially Mercedes in terms of sales, reliability scores, crash tests, and industry praise.

Audi is a massive international hit.

Audi is here to stay.

Get used to it, or get out of the way as progress races by you.
