U.S. built Volkswagen sedan will be offered with diesel variant

Some say it will be an overgrown Jetta or that it will replace the current Passat and will look a lot like the Passat CC. Details are still unclear about a new Volkswagen upper-medium sedan that has been confirmed to be built at its new U.S. plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee. However, Automotive News Europe did some digging and found out some new inside info.

It will be interesting to see how well this new venture fares.
When they bailed out of US production 25 years ago, they concluded that American workers couldn't build a vehicle to German standards. Since then, Toyota and Honda proved you CAN build a quality product in North America, followed by many other makers. Hopefully the production quality can match the design quality.
Does anyone know where the diesel engines will be built?
Will they come from Mexico, Brazil, Germany, or elsewhere?

This sounds like a cool idea, but one thing worries me... Every time I have seen a VW not designed with the German market in mind it has been bland. Look at the vehicles in Brazil. All of their offerings for that market are pretty bland. I just hope this is not the case here... otherwise it sounds like a great idea.

New York State still has a ban on Diesel cars.

The Passat CC looks so handsome it almost deserves an Audi badge. The luxury it comes with this car is unparalleled in its class. The Passat is to VW like the Avalon is to Toyota, except the Passat looks ten times better.

This car was the star of the 008 Detroit show. this car made the most sense if one was in the market to buy a long-term car.
