You mean Z4 and SLK rival?

Cannot compet w/ Boxter unless it's MR.

Says who? The Z4 M and SLK 55 do just fine against the Boxter so why not the Jaguar? There are plenty cross-shopping between these cars.

It does not take much to beat the boxer as its under powered.

295hp in a car that weighs under 3000lbs is not underpowered, it is called balance. There is a lot more to a good sportscar than big hp numbers. Especially smallish rear drive roadsters, in which to big an engine throws the balance of the car off, and too much power sacrifices driveablity and turns a car meant to play in corners into a straight line machine.

When it comes to overall balance and driving enjoyment, the Boxster (especially the Boxster S) is still the best driving roadster in its competitive class.

This competitive class includes the BMW Z4, Audi TT, Merc SLK.

Thats not to say that the other cars are not good, its just that they have different strengths. The Audi and the Merc are great cars, but they lack the balance of the Boxster and the deft steering feel that can only be achieved through MR layout.

The Z4 is a great drive as well, but the long sloppy throw manual transmission that BMWs are known for ruins a lot of the fun for a true enthusiast. The shifter feel in the Boxster, while long, still feels very precise in comparison.

The Benz and the Audi would be more at home as boulevard cruisers while the Z4 would be at home on a nice sweeping canyon road.

If your budget cannot stretch to these pricey Germans, and you can do without the luxury (weight!) or badges for showing off, at a much more attractive price you can have the essence of roadster distilled in the form of the Honda S2000. For the dedicated track nut who has other vehicles for daily use, there is the Lotus Elise.

For the rest of us who want a car that works equally well as a daily and a weekend track car, there is the Boxster S.

Or, if you can't afford a new Boxster S, get a used one. There is no substitute. It's the best combination of daily drivability and pure, unadulterated fun for under $60K.

Nice to see some fresh ideas and an automaker willing to take a risk on some new models. That's the difference between a mega-company like Ford (decisions totally based on potential risk to shareholder value) and a smaller company.

The new XK and XF are awesome vehicles and I hope they continue down the current path.
