Official: Bmw 3-Series most reliable car in the UK

Bmw’s largest selling model lineup, the 3-Series, has been selected the most dependable car in a review of Britain’s car rental companies. The survey, which included the reliability record of nearly 900,000 vehicles in 2008, also showed that Bmw was the most dependable carmaker overall.

In a momentous victory over Japanese carmakers who usually dominate in the reliability survey category, Bmw led the charts in this year’s annual FN50 reliability poll. The Bmw 3-Series was the highest rated version for reliability, with the Mini hatch and Bmw 1-Series also making it to the top ten, at fifth and seventh places, respectively.

Then again, I haven't had any issue with my 1yr old 335i which I drive very very hard....

Seriously...

That's not that old at all.

I have driven my 04 Corolla for the last 120,000 KM really god damned hard, red-lined all the time. It has not had any issues aside from shitty little rattles in the vents and doors which would of course cost more than $700 to fix. Anyways... a year old BMW shouldn't have any issues with the mechanics... should it?

For Corolla's we can't expect too much from it. You get what you pay for, a small economic car that can run a million miles but not necessarily hold up for 100% of those million miles. The recent BMW's are built very well and solid. The fit and finish has improved over the years.

I have driven BMW's for many years and have hardly had any issues, especially my old E30 which i had for 15 years, but i drove a E46 for ten years (which I still own) with only minor problems and now drive a E90 323i and havnt had one. Kudo's BMW!

What's the definition of "breakdown"? The study analyzed the number of breakdowns per 100 of each type of model on each leasing company’s fleet. If breakdown simply means that the car won't go then I'm not surprised that BMW did very well. They make great engines. How about the reliability of other components?

I am on my 2nd BMW and have never once had an issue. Just because a few people blast a minor issue all over the internet, doesnt mean that the car company is a piece of junk.
My ford F150 has 150000 on their V8 and I have enver had one problem either. my g/f's camry on the other hand... issue after issue... rattles, tranny replaced, twice. but not every camry has issues, just the luck of the draw. her is a 2007 BTW with 20,000 miles on it.

BMW is like a box of chocolates, you never know what your gonna get... When you get a Bimmer, you'll always get two of three things:

roundel badge + lemmon
or
roundel badge + not quite a lemmon

I've had several BMWs during the past decade and have never had a single problem.
My experience is that they are bullet-proof and tons of fun to drive.
Interesting that most of those here critical of BMW quality/reliability have never owned one.
