Nissan 370Z officially rated at 332 HP

Images of the all new 2009 Nissan 370Z have been trickling out of Nissan for the past few weeks as a lead up to the car's official unveiling at the 2008 LA Auto Show. Details have been mostly speculation thus far, but now some of the rumors can be laid to rest, thanks to information in a photo caption from the LA Auto Show's website. The new Z will reverse the recent automotive trend of bloated model redesigns by featuring a reduced wheelbase and more lightweight body pieces. We also now know that its VQ37 engine will put down exactly 332 horsepower. That is a couple more ponies than are currently produced by the same engine inside the Infiniti G37. For those who like to rest their left foot while driving, a 7-speed automatic transmission will also finally be offered. And for those who enjoy some fancy footwork, but don't have a perfectly calibrated heel-toe, a rev-matching downshift system will be available for the 6-speed manual.

From side photos it looks like front and rear overhangs are reduced significantly. If Nissan has gone back to a 99" wheelbase I'm guessing the length at
around 160". That will make it only 3 inches longer then a Mazda Miata. I'm also guessing the weight between 3000 LBS and 3100 LBS. If the engine is indeed
332 HP with 270 LBS of torque that gives the Z a better
power to weight ratio then a Porsche Cayman S.Recent tests have a 0-60 for the Cayman S at 4.8 seconds.Of course it all depends on transmission ratio's but conceivably put a 0-60 between 4.5 and 5 seconds.Now the question is what will they price it at?

As one who found the 350Z rather 'thick waisted', goofy and ungainly looking, this new iteration (370Z) is a marked improvement in so many important ways.

The new-found power/performance is just icing on what appears to be a very tasty cake...

Great Effort, and I wish Nissan well in these tough economic times.

i kept on hearing around 350HP. the rumors were way off on this one. i just hope it really is noticeable lighter (200+ lighter)

I just read on one of the car magazine that the 370z will weigh in at around 3300 lbs. That's only 100 lbs lighter than the current 350z Touring model. I sincerely doubt that the 370z is going to be under 3000lbs.

Rated at 332, but in typical nissan fashion, it will feel and perform more like 270.

Considering that the old 300ZX had 320 horses with a twin turbo, I think the weight and balance in horsepower would make this a great car.
