AutoWeek Magazine Going Bi-Bi?

001, your arrogance towards the mainstream automotive press is killing me this week. Your write up about Autoweek's changes borders on gleeful.

As an automotive enthusiast, this news is sad. There is nothing better than finding Autoweek in my mailbox on Fridays after a long week. Going to a bi-monthly publication seems like the first step to going out of business.

I just don't get where this bitterness is coming from. Autospies and Autoweek (or any of the other mags) aren't even direct competitors.

Autospies is more of a forum where the latest car news is compiled from the web and readers can post their thoughts and opinions. Original content is limited to the occasional car show photo gallery, occasional car launch, and numerous articles based on the "you have X amount of dollars, what do you buy" formula.

AutoWeek magazine (and its website) on the other hand is full of original articles in the form of test drives, comparisons, and motosports coverage. Autoweek also has some great columnists (Denise McCluggage for example) and some noteworthy features (their numerous pieces on teenage driver training for example). Plus their classified is always fun to peruse.

I'm not saying that one format is better than the other -- they are just different (apples to oranges). I enjoy reading Autospise each day and posting on articles to keep the banter going. I also enjoy reading Autoweek and other car magazines for their expert and qualified opinions on cars.

This whole bailout thing has got me really angry...Plain and simple, these companies are failing because their executives are just plain idiots!!!

And because we're an auto site, I'm focusing my anger this week on the incompetence in this sector.

And it is RAMPANT!!!!

I agree as well HS. Also, not sure what autospies.com is bragging about, not as if they are a paragon of automotive influence themselves.

001- This will be my last post and visit to your site, Autospies is interesting only for it's blog style format. For real new Leftlane, Autocar, Car Magazine and so on are far better.

Most of Autospies post/news is taken from other sites and Magazines, when was the last time you or one of your agents actualy did some work and posted a origianal content article? Hell even a car review.

Ban me if you like but your arrogance is petty.

I wonder if Chrysler, GM, & Ford go bye bye, what company will we bash then? Lexus? Their here to stay for decades to come....BMW? Their here to stay also...Honda? HELL NO....Acura? Maybe....Probably Nissan & Infiniti.....

Too bad they were old school journalists. A magazine full of good writers. ORIGINAL content and such. They were slow to follow the 2.0 pseudo-journalist that pilfers, links, rebrand,, backlink whatever you want to call it. Its funny how these new 2.0 journalist call themselves journalists riding on the backs of other publications. Look at autospies.com and count how many entries are original and not opinions. Entry after entry is a backlink to another sites story., egmcartech and motorauthority. Stop stealing!

Judging by his comments, Agent001 is not an industry spokesman, he is an industry critic. Constructive criticism like his, which flows freely on this website, is precisely what is LACKING from mainstream automotive print journalism, which is PRECISELY why mainstream print journalism is FAILING. C&D, Automobile, Autoweek: You people have been nothing but SHILLS for your advertisers for TOO LONG. And NOW LOOK what has happened? A giant rip has opened up in the very fabric you helped stretch hopelessly thin.

Never knew this company had magazine issues.

I will not cry for AW. They have lost "it". "It" being that "thing" that made it an important read. Instead of late they have been posting blogs on their website that border on vapid, short, and in searing lack of content depth. They have women pontificating about Veganism instead of gear-heads talking about gears.

I too have seen their decline over the past couple of years and applaud it. Survival of the fittest is the name of the game. You suck, you will get chucked.

Yes, they lost sight of what's really important but it's still very sad to see them go like this. I too looked forward to finding a copy every week.

AutoSpies number 1, though i do agree a few more orignal reviews of cars would be more like it...

Not surprising, although I'll miss it. I always looked forward to getting a weekly dose of auto reading, usually right at the weekend. Most issues were a little sparse, but I still liked it and its style. But in this day of instant news on the web, I'm not surprised that auto week is having trouble.

As for Autospies bashing it, no shock there. I come here because it's a handy way to see what's new each day, IN SPITE of the ridiculous comments by many (not all) posters and the "editors" (I mean "spies").

In this world of BORING POLITICAL CORRECT NICENESS,
I find 001 comments entertaining and refreshing!!!!

As far as Autoweek there is no substitute for the weekly grab from the mailbox, kick the feet up on the couch and have a little car time, but if biweekly is all I get then at least its better than the monthly.

Used to be a big fan of Autoweek, but there hardly were any updates. Haven't been to the website in a while but I remember always having to wait forever till they updated their latest news. By then it was already old news.

Plus got tired of always being bashed on their blogs. If you don't own a domestic or support the big three in someway you'll get chewed out!
