Fighter-jet inspired 2009 ROUSH P-51B Mustang

ROUSH has announced its second aviation-themed Mustang paying homage to the legendary World War II fighter planes. The 2009 P-51B Mustang joins the P-51A (seen last year) in ROUSH’s aviation inspired pony cars. The P-15B Mustang will see a limited production run of just 51 units but ROUSH is quick to say that it may build some extra units for the press and testing.

Clarification (not to be a jerk), The P-51 was a fighter plane, not jet. It became so well known because of it's abilities to fly the entire length of a bomber mission as escort planes into Germany racking up many kills.

Actually the P-51 was outclassed in kills by the P-47. By the time the P-51-D arrived in Europe the P-47 had already broken the back of the German Luftwaffe. The pilots the Germans sent up were novices with few flying hours flying BF-109G6 / K models that were considerably outclassed by the Mustang. Easy kills in other words.

In sheer number of aircraft kills the Messerschmitt BF-109 holds the record until this day. No other aircraft in history shot down so many enemy aircraft as the BF-109. Impressive for an airplane that many aviation experts considered obsolete by mid-1942.
