M3 eligibility for Le Mans a possibility
BMW could race its new V8-powered M3 in the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the FIA GT Championship in Europe--but only if it makes major changes to the new GT2 car. Two things need to happen before the M3 is cleared to race in Europe, in addition to its attack on the American Le Mans Series with Rahal Letterman Racing.

First, its place on the list of approved cars needs to be rubber-stamped by the FIA World Motorsport Council in November, and then the company must agree to several changes to its American-spec car.

The M3's problem is that BMW built it to the GT2S rules laid down by IMSA, the sanctioning body of the ALMS. Those rules allow more scope for modification than is permitted under FIA/Le Mans rules.
