LA AUTO SHOW: Is The Infiniti G37 Coupe BETTER Looking AND Worth More Than The New 370z?

The G37 is far more Grand Touring than the Z370, and I really don't believe that many will be cross-shopping the two...

As questionable as the rear seat accommodations of the G37 may be, at least it has them, and for a number of buyers, that's a huge plus.

For those who crave a more sporting/pure driving experience, the Z370 is available.

Note: As far as looks go, this round clearly goes to the Nissan Z370 IMO.

Better-looking? No. It's just about as sexy as you can get while still having a coupe that seats four, though. One is a sports car, the other is a more luxurious (but still performance-oriented) GT.

Worth the extra cash? Absolutely. Someone looking at a 370Z would have little to no interest in a G37 and vice versa.

I think you know exactly what I mean. Its rear seat isn't the biggest, but these cars wouldn't be cross-shopped. The G is for someone who needs to take more than one person in the car every once in a while.

Anyways, the backseat of the G coupe definitely is bumpin (for your head, if you enjoy the look of a goose-egg protruding from your head). But, at least you can put some groceries, luggage, or what-not back there. Combined with the trunk space, you are doing much better than the Z.

ALSO, if you have kids, then it is a plus having a car like the G coupe compared to the Z. You could never pick up 2 kids from elementary school in a Z, but you could stick 3 rugrats in your G coupe. That's appealing to young couples that want a fun car but don't want something so impractical like a 2 seater sports car.

Not saying you're wrong but I personally think the z is better looking and has the same engine....We are in a new world, a world of frugality and price comparison like never before.

I think you will be surprised...the Coupe buyer is also younger and people want edgy today...

The G37's back seat is very adaquate for the type of car it is. I'm a salesman at an Infiniti dealer and I can tell you I spend alot of time in the back. I'm 5'10" and 200 lb's and other than a lack of head room it's fine back there. And yes we do get cross shopped with the Z Even back when they first came out people looked at both. If you load up a 350/370 it gets pretty close in price with the obvious short comings.

Next, let's explore the Z4 M with the M6. Maybe BMW didn't realize it, but they are cannibalizing their sales! OMFGz!

I've been in the Infiniti and if there is one glaring weakness in their cars it is quality of interior bits and gauges...those amber or blue 'technics' stereo-type stink in my opinion.

Look at the clarity and resolution of the BMW amber vs. Infiniti..like comparing ntsc vs. hdtv.

no its not, lol, the Z and G37 are basedon the same car, not to mention use the same engine, the dashboard is the same, other than different interior desighn and materials, and the lack of a rear seat. I dont see why people wouldnt cross shop the 2. The G is far more sport than luxury, which is a downfall to some, and its lack of refinement makes it a sports car nonetheless. The fact you cant get in the back seat is another good point, honestly if I had to pick between these 2 I would go with the Z it seems to hit its target better, the G37still hasnt gotten the luxury part right, as it looks, sounds, rides, and feels like a sports car not a luxury sedan, which it was the A5, 3 series, and CLK have had no problem being both high quality refined luxury cars, while offering great performance. Ive always seen teh G as a Z for those that need a theoretical back seat, and want a different badge than the Z can offer,and the G cars are so close in price to the Z it almost seems pointless

The G looks better to me.The Z needs to get rid of those head lights and tail lights. As far as the handling, acceleration etc, if i had either car the suspension would be worked as well as the motor.

I don't know about that (370Z handling better than Cayman). It's hard to beat a lightweight mid-engined car in canyon carving.

I have to agree with the masses on this one, I don't believe the 2 cars will be cross shopped.

With that being said, since the G37 shops to a different demographic than the 370Z, I would have to say that while it may be worth the extra money, I don't think buyers of either car will make price the sole decision in choosing one over the other.

If you're interested in some luxury, you would never get the 370Z. In that case, the G37 is for you. (I agree with 001 about Infinite interiors, they tend to have quality problems just over a year).

On the other hand, if you want that sporty good looking car and don't care much about smaller interior space or backseats, then the 370Z if for you.

If I was in the market for a G37, I wouldn't cross shop it with a 370Z. Perhaps with a 335i.

370Z is more dedicated sports car with optimum amount of luxury. It's a sports car first and aggressive performance oriented looks.

G37 is basically a luxury coupe, so plenty of features and comforts, but based on Z and wonderful VQ engine is given, also makes it very sporty. Outcome = great mix of sports and luxury and stylish looks. Vey successfull and my favourite in the class.

The Z was me at 21. Now I'm 31 married with children, so the Infiniti it is.

I would not consider either vehicle as I do not think either of them are good looking cars. I have not driven the 370z, so i cannot completely make a fair judgment. but i didnt like the 350z.

Neither of these cars looks as good as the original G35 coupe. The 370Z, I'm going to have to see on the road before I make an estimation of its looks. In photos, it is a bit ungainly. The G37S -- I cannot take it on its own; I keep comparing it to the original G coupe and it keeps coming up short.

001, the G's dont have amber gauge lighting anymore, it was changed to a cool blue (which you mentioned in one post then switched to saying amber in another) which is much better than the yellowish tint the older G's had.

G37 - worth it for me - better interior, rear seat (groceries, or whatever) - especially when you consider the new AWD option.

Both are amazing cars all around. However, I totally think the G37 is worth the extra money. The Z is aimed at a slightly different demographic than the G. I would be happy with either one, but if I had a choice I would choose the G37!!

ok, as a car salesman who sells new BMW's and Infiniti's once in a while I get a guy who is looking at the 350Z just to see what he can get for th eextra money. Now if he is not looking at a loaded 350Z then the money is way off but loaded up the cost is close.. so then it comes down to how much value he/she puts on the sunroof interior and back seats.

I do have to disagree with alot of people in that I dont see any quality problems with the Infiniti interiors. The buttons work, they dont fall off the computers dont have to be reprogrammed every month the nav is one of the easiest to use... what is there to complain about?

If you ask me the styling of both Nissan and Infiniti has taken a nosedive. Frankly I couldn't care less about their newer models. Nissans have become so bland and Infiniti is trying to look European with curvacious lines and lots of exterior chrome - but it simply isn't working for me. Both Nissan and Infiniti still make good cars, but their styling just doesn't speak to me. Same goes for Acura and Honda.

Can Porsche sue Nissan for stealing its timeless 911 shape in the 370Z?
